SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,661, dated March 31, 1885.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. GALLT, of Port Byron, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Shirt-Laces; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying draW ings, in which- Figure l is a front view of a shirt with my improvelnent applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front View of a portion of the lacing.

My improvement relates to fancy shirts with an ornamental lacing in front which closes and secures the sides.

The invention consists of a lacing composed of a single piece of cord looped to form buttonholes on opposite sides, in combination with a shirt-front provided with buttons on opposite sides, over which the loops button, the lacing resting wholly outside and being removablev from place, as hereinafter more fully described.

In the drawings, A shows a shirt of usual form, being open in front, and having a row of buttons, ce a, on each side of the bosomopening, as usual.

Bis the lacing, which is made of cord of any desired kind and color. It is made from a single piece, and is doubled to produce the loops b b on opposite sides, is knotted in the center, as shown at @.is then carried down, forming .the connectinglength d, and is then looped again till the whole lacing is complete. This meeting-length, and the whole forming a device that can be applied or removed at pleasure. In some cases I shorten the buttonholes by closing a part of the loop by stitching, as shown at f, so that the button-hole is fitted to hold on the button, while the loop is made of the necessary length to extend from button to button across the shirt.

The advantages of this invention are that while the lacing serves the same purpose as ordinarylacings or loops that are permanently sewed or otherwise attached tothe shirt, it is removable all in one body for the purpose o f either washing the shirt or the lacing, orfor other purposes, andv is easily replaced by a new lacing, or whereit is desired to use a lacing of a different color.

The lacing made from a single length, consisting of the opposite loops b b, knots ce, and connecting-lengths del, in combination with a shirt-front provided with buttons on opposite sides, over which the loops button, as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
