(JPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 313,882, dated March 10, 1885.

Be it known that LGARLAND \IVALKER MULLIu, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of \Vilk es and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Points, of which the following is a description.
This invention pertains to that class of plows which are called sweeps, and are used in cultivating crops where shallow plowing is required.
The purpose of the invention is to obviate the necessity of sharpening the plow-point, and to produce a light, inexpensive, and effective plow-point.
To this end my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts forming a plow-point, hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my plow-point complete and ready for attachment to any plow-stock. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same at or as, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the plow-blade detached.
A represents the upper plate, and B the lower plate, constituting the main portion of the frame of my plow-point. These plates are preferably made of steel, and duplicates of each other in form, their form being suited to the work to be done.
0 is the plow blade or point proper, consisting of a plate of steel of the same form as the plates A and B, but further provided with a central slotin the shank portion D, and with a series of holes, E, in each wing parallel to the central line of the whole point. This blade 0 may be fixed in the frame to project forward therefrom to any required extent, to cut the ground, the plate A serving as the (No mod el.-)
moldboard, to whatever extent a mold-board is required in this kind of a plow. The upper and lower plates are secured upon the blade, to clamp the same between them, by means of wing-bolts F, each of which passes through both plates Aand B. and through one of the holes E, and by the bolt G, which passes through the slot J in the blade. The plowpoint may be secured to theplow-stock by means of bolts passing through the holes H. or these may be assisted by extending the bolt G through the stock. This plow may be made very cheaply, trom the fact that by bolting three plates together a stiffer plow is made than one of the same weight would beif made of one thicker plate, thus enabling me to use thinner plate, and from the fact that these three plates may all be punched into form with one set of dies, the slot in the blade being afterward punched. The blade being thin will wear to an edge in use, thus being selfsharpening, and as it wears away it may be set forward out of the frame. The three plates might be held together by the wingbolts alone, or by one or more central bolts alone, but all acting together keep the parts in place with more certainty.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the upper and lower plates, A and B, provided with bolt-holes at F, G, and H, and the middle plate, 0, provided with a series of holes, E, at each side edge, and with the central slot, J, all three plates being similar in their general outline, 7
