Description
J. 1?. RYAN. Plow-Standard.
No. 206,830. Patented Aug. 6,1878.
WlTN ESSES ATTORN EYS UNITED A STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN F. RYAN, OF MAYSVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEM ENT IN PLOW-STANDARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,830, dated August (i, 1879; application filed July 6, 18725.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OIIN F. RYAN, of Maysville, in the county of Mason and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my combined plow. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 8 is a sectional plan view through 00 w and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are perspective details of the same.
My invention relates to a double reversible plow-shin, to which interchangeable plows, cultivators, scrapers, and the like may be attached without the use of plates or other devices, except bolts.
The invention consists in a two-faced curved standard, which secures together two horizontal bars. Each of the curved standards or seats is provided with bolt-holes, by which the difierent devices are secured to the shin. ()ne of the standards has a beveled front surface to furnish a bearing for the plow and scraper, and the other has an oval front to supply bearings for the shovel-plow and cultivator. The side opposite to the bevel for the moldboard is formed in a longitudinal plane fora land-side. Projections and bolts from and through the upper horizontal bar serve to secure it to the plow-beam, and a shoulder on the lower bar serves as a bearingforthelandside of the plow.
It will then be observed that my invention is a double plow-standard, made to reverse upon the plow-beam, one side being beveled to carry a turn-plow and scraper, and the other being formed to furnish bearing for a shovel-plow or cultivator.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the plow-standard, having beveled side a and bolt-holes a. B represents the cultivatorstandard, having oval front surface I) and boltholes b. The standards A and B are curved in different directions, are joined and rigidly secured together at or near their centers upon their convex surfaces, and at their upper extremities are attached to a beam-bar, G, having projections c and bolt-holes c, for attachment to the plow-beam. (Not shown.) The lower extremities of the standards A B are attached to the foot 1), having a shoulder, (I, to receive and furnishbearings for the land side of the plow-point.
E represents a longitudinal plane on the standards A B and on the foot D, and this plane furnishes or comprises aland-side, which serves when either of the standards are ahead.
These parts form my complete standard, and the standard thus formed is adapted to be secured to the plow-beam and be reversed at will thereon.
F represents a plow consisting of the moldboard f, point f, and land-side f, with shoulderf to abut against the shoulder (l on the foot D. This plow is adapted to be secured to the beveled standard A by bolts.
G represents the scraper, adapted to be secured to the same standard, and it is provided with bolt-holes g, as shown.
H and I represent the shovelplow and eultivator, adapted to be secured to the oval standard B by bolts through holes h i.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The plow-shin described, consisting of the curved part A, having beveled outer surface a and bolt-holes a, the part 13, having oval surface I) and bolt-holes b, the beam-bar G c, and the plow-foot D with shoulder d, and having land-side E, as shown, adapted to serve relatively to the plow F ff f f or cultivators G, H, or I at will, and to be reversed upon the plow-beam, when desired, as herein specified, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN FRANKLIN RYAN.
Witnesses:
GEo. W. SULsER, WILLIAM T. BERRY.
