(Cl. 128-524) When a panty girdle is Worn, the sitting and torso bending movements of the wearer exert an upward pull on the legs of the garment, resulting in the impairment of the side straight lines and smooth fitting characteristics desired in the garment, and the object of the invention is to provide special means for overcoming this problem. Such means consist in the provision of an unbroken cuff area at the end of each panty leg, above which is positioned a specially constructed arrangement inwardly of the side wall of the leg, which permits the garment to yield relatively to the lower area of each leg and in a longitudinal direction.

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of the invention.

FIG. 2 is a schematic view showing the action of the improvements with respect to one leg of the garment and when the torso has been moved upwardly as in sitting position, the legs being indicated by curved lines.

FIG. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3-3, FIG. 1.

Referring to the drawings, I have shown in FIG. 1 a panty girdle to which the invention is applied, and in the front of the girdle 1 may be inserted a panel 2 which is elastic only in longitudinal direction, whereas surrounding body portion of the girdle will have both lateral and longitudinal stretch as customary. A fulled crotch piece 4 is inserted, as customary.

Each leg of the girdle is outwardly formed by a depending area of the girdle body fabric. Inwardly of said depending area 1 the leg is completed by a cuff which is stretchable lengthwise, and hence laterally of the leg. As shown more particularly in FIG. 3, this cuff is split into an upper section and a lower section, these sections being connected by an elastic net at 5.

The upper cuff section preferably is a band 6 of Ionice gitudinally elastic webbing seamed to the girdle body fabric and underlying the same, and also seamed to the elastic net 5. The lower edge of the upper cuif section normally meets the lower cuff section, the latter being formed by an inner band '7 of longitudinally elastic fabric, preferably formed with an exposed soft finish, and an outer band 7 of the same type.

At their outer ends the cult bands are brought under the girdle body fabric and are seamed thereto as indicated at 8, FIGS. 1 and 2. The elastic net 5 is inserted between bands 7 and 7 and seamed thereto. As indicated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the lower margins of crotch piece 4 may overlie the upper cuff member and be seamed to it.

It will be understood that various modifications may be made in the form and arrangements of the embodiment illustrated without departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

A panty girdle comprising a body member of elastic material and having legs, the outer area of each leg portion consisting of an unbroken downward extension of the girdle body, the girdle body being cut away only at the inner area of each leg portion, a cuff insert consisting of a lowermost band in said cut-away portion stretchable longitudinally of itself and seamed at its ends to the downward extension of the girdle body, a band applied to the said inner area of each leg portion at the top of said cut-away portion stretchable longitudinally of itself, its lower margin normally being substantially in juxtaposition with the top of the first named band, and a stretchable member bridging said bands at the inner face of the leg and stretchable transversely of said bands, said stretchable member being seamed to the first named band and to the second named band near its top margin.
