W. NEWMAN.
v FAUGET FOR TOYS.
No; 312,750. Patented Feb. 24, 1885.
' WITNESSES: I-NVENTOR BY I r NrTEn STATES PATENT Prion.
' WENZEL NEWMAN, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
FAUCET FO R TOYS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,750, dated February 24, 1885.
Application filed October 8, 1884. (No model.)
T on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WnNzEL NEWMAN, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Faucets for Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved faucet for sheet-metal toys, such as barrels, pails, water-coolers, and other articles; and the invention consists of a faucet which is closed by a conical valve that is pressed by a spring made in one piece with the valve-spindle against the valve-seat of the faucet-barrel, the spindle of the valve being extended through the end of the faucet and bent backward, and provided with a handle, by which the valve is opened, in connection with a fixed thumb-rest of the faucet-barrel.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a toy barrel with my improved faucet, and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a toy barrel or other liquid-receptacle, made-of sheet metal or other suitable material. Bis the faucet of the same, which is also made of sheet metal, and soldered or otherwise attached to the barrel or other receptacle. The head of the barrel or wall of the receptacle A is provided at the inner end of the faucet B with a conical valveseat, a, against which is tightly fitted a conical valve, 0. The spindle G of the valve Gis extended through the valve 0 into thereceptacle A, and bent up into nearly circular shape, the end being soldered or otherwise attached to the barrel head or wall of the receptacle A, so as to form thereby a spring, 0, by which the valve 0 is tightly pressed against its seat a. The front end of the valve-spindle O is passed through a guide-opening, b, at the front end of the faucet, and either provided with a knobhandle or bent backward above the faucet, and
arranged-with an upwardly-bent handle, C, which, in connection with the fixed thumbrest 01, attached to the faucet B, admits the opening of the valve 0 when the handle G ispressed forward toward the thumb rest 01. \Vhen the valve 0 is opened against the tension of the spring 0, the contents of the barrel or other receptacle are discharged through the faucet. As soon as the handleis released the spring-actuated spindle closes the valve tightly and securely, so that none of the contents of the receptacle can escape. By thus making the valve-spindle G, the spring G that actuates the valve, and the handle 0 of one continuous piece of wire the construction of the faucet is greatly simplified and themanufacture facilitated and rendered cheaper.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A faucet for toy barrels and other liquidreceptacles, composed of a faucet-barrel having a conical valve-seat at its inner end, a conical valve, a valve-spindle guided in a hole of the faucet and extended through the valve, and a bent-spring portion made in one piece with the spindle, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of abarrel or other liquid-receptacle having a valve-seat, a faucet attached to the barrel or receptacle, a conical valve, a valve-spindle extending through the faucet to the outside, and having a handle at its. outer end, said spindle being extended through the valve, andprovided with a bentspring portion, the end of which isattaehed to the head of the barrel, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
- \VENZEL NEWMAN.
