FLASK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. February 10, 1913.
Patented Au 26,1913.
Serial No. 747,437.
To all whom it may concern:
x3e it known that I, IVILLIAM CHESTER Form, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flasks, of which the following is a specification.
The flask which is the subject of the present invention is designed more particularly to hold liquids which are under pressure, and its object is to provide convenient means for controlling the discharge of the liquid from the flask. The flask is so shaped, and a closure and operating means for the latter are provided, which enable the discharge to be controlled by the same hand that grasps the flask.
The invention is illustrated. in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the flask. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail showing the closure.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes the body of the flask, the same having a. suitable filler opening 6 provided with a closure 7. This opening is shown in the bottom of the flask, but it may be made in any other convenient place. The flask body is tapered toward its upper or outlet end, and said end is also deflected sidewise, and has asmall discharge orifice 8. A siphon tube 9 is located in the flask, its lower end opening near the bottom of the flask, and its upper end tapering and entering the ori- The closure for the flask is a spherical valve plug 10 seating on the outer end of the orifice 8. This valve plug is carried by a stem 11 passing through a slit in a guard 12 and pivoted thereto as indicated at 13. The guard 12 is a strip which is secured at its ends to the flask body and is bowed outward therefrom similar to the triggerguard of a fire-arm. The valve stem 11 is shaped like a trigger and has connected to its end, opposite the end carrying the plug, one
of the arms lat of a V-shaped spring, the other arm of which spring is secured to the flask body. This spring serves to hold the valve plug to its seat. Upon pressing the valve stem toward the flask body the valve plug is unseated, and when the valve stem is released, the spring at once reseats the valve plug. The spring is strong enough to overcome the pressure of the contents of the flask.
The action is very simple and the valve can be operated by the same hand which holds the bottle. The shape of the flask body and the position of the valve stem enables the flask to be held and the valve opened in the same manner a revolver would be held, and its trigger pulled to discharge the same, the valve stem and the guard being on the concavely curved side of the flask body.
I claim:
1. A flask comprising a body having its outlet end deflected sidewise and provided with a discharge orifice, a. closure for said orifice, a stem carrying the closure, said stem extending toward the concavely curved side of the flask body, a guard secured to the flask body to which guard the aforesaid stem is pivoted and within which it lies, and a spring for holding the closure seated.
2. A flask comprising a body having its outlet end deflected sidewise and provided with a discharge orifice, a closure for said orifice, a stem carrying the closure, said stem extending toward the concavely curved side of the flask body, a guard secured to the flask body and having a slit through which the aforesaid stem passes and in which the stem is pivoted, and a spring for holding the closure seated.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM CHESTER POPPE. lVitnesseS S. J. LEI-IRER, II. G. BATCHELOR.
