MEASURING JACKET.
No. s12,2'11.'
Patented Feb. 10,1885.
INVENTOR X 75 M 13-- ATTORNEYS.
NITED STATES MEASURING-JACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,211, dated February 10, 1885.
Applicat'on filed March 12,1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN LINGEN, of WVheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of YVest Virginia, have invented a new and Improved llIeasuringJacket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to facilitate the adjusting ofthe size of a measuringjacket.
This invention, which is an improvement on Letters Patent N 0. 207,880, issued to me for an improved measuring-jacket on the 10th day of September, 1878, consists in the combination, with thejacket, of an extensible and adj ustable frame held on and between the edges of one of the seams, thus permitting of enlarging or decreasing the size of the jacket, as may be necessary.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a side view of the front and side of my improved measuring-jacket. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan View of the same on the line a 00, Fig. 1.
On the front edge of the side section, A, of the measuring-jacket a rod or tube, B, is secured, preferably by sewing the edge of the fabric around it, and from the said rod or tube B a series of slightly-curved arms, 0, project toward the front.
On the back edge of the front section, D, of the measuring-jacket a rod or tube, E, is secured, which is provided with a series of transverse apertures or eyes, F, through which the curved arms 0 can be passed, each eye F being provided with a fixed sleeve or tubular continuation, F, and with a binding-screw, G, or analogous device, for holding the said armsin place in the eyes. The sleeves or continuations F hold the arms 0 rigidly and at right angles to the bar or tube E. The rods or tubes B and E extend from the arm-opening H down to the hip, or to that part of the jacket which covers the hip. The rods or tubes B and E can be separated more or less, according to the size of the person, and when adjusted can be locked in place by means of the screws G. The measuring-jack et can thus be adjusted to fit any person, stout or slim, and can be adjusted very accurately.
The abovedescribed rods or tubes, with the curved arms, form an adjustable frame interposed between the adjoining edges of the front and side pieces of the jacket. The said frame is to be made of metal.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a jacket, of a rod or tube secured to front edge of the side section, curved arms projecting from the same, a rod or tube held on the back edge of the front piece, and provided with eyes or apertures for the curved arms, and with means for locking the curved arms on the said apertured rod or tube, substantially as herein shown and described.
HERMANN Linens.
