SEVERIN ROGS'IAD, OF NORTH BEND, OREGON.
TROUSERS-STBETGHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec, 11, 191?.
Application filed February 27, 1917. Serial No. 151,247.
Stretchers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in trouser stretchers.
The object of this invention is the provi sion of a trouser stretcher and creasing device which will effectively stretch and crease the trousers and at the same time efi'ect the pressing in a thorough and practical manner.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a trouser stretcher upon which the trousers may be placed and held in proper position so as to regain their form and take out all the creases therein in a,
reliable and efiicient manner.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a trouser stretcher of this character, which will be simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive in construction and one that can be'manufactured and sold at a small cost.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device as made in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a section view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals of reference I responding parts on all. the figures ofthe drawing. 7
Referring more particularly to the drawing the numeral 1 designates a pair of relatively spaced creasing bars adapted to have positioned thereupon a pair of trousers to eflectively stretch the same. bars 1 each comprise sections 2 and 3. Each of the sections 2 and 3 of each of the bars 1 are hingedly connected together at their inner ends as at 4 so as to permit the secdesignate cor- The creasing tions to be readily folded upon one another when not in use. The bars 1, are arranged at a spaced distance apart to constitute the front crease receiving bar and the rear crease receiving bar. The lower section 3 of the rear creasing bar is curved outwardly as at 5 to conform to the configuration of the upper enlarged portion of a pair of trousers. The upper end of the upper bar 2 of the front creasing bar 1 is curved outwardly as at 6 to conform to the cufi' of a pair of trousers placed'thereon.
The sections 2 and 3 of the bars 1 are each provided adjacent their ends on the inner opposing sides with laterally extending lugs 7, said lugs are provided with openings to receive pins 8 the-purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. a
A plurality of links 9 are arranged in pairs and each pair is secured by one end to a lug 7 of each section of the bars 1,,the pairs of links 9 which are secured to the. lower section are relatively longer than the pairs of links 9 secured to the upper sections 2 of the bars 1 and each pair is arranged on opposite side of the lug 7 and pivotally secured thereto by the pins 8 as i clearly shown in Fig; 1 of the drawing.
The free ends of each pair of the links 9 are provided with relatively spaced openings 10 the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.
A vertically arranged spreading bar 11 comprises sections 12 and 13 and the sections are hingedly connected together as at 14. Each section is provided intermediate its endwith a longitudinally extending slot 15. A
. The lower section 13 of the spreader bar 11 is provided adjacent its lower end with a plurality of spaced openings 16 which are adapted to aline with the openings 10 of the links 9 of the lower sections 3, in each of the side bars 1. The links 9 of the lower section 3 are arranged on op osite sides of the spreadin bar and one o the openings 10 is adapte to aline with the opening 16 in the spreading bar and pivotally secured therefio by a bolt 17 which passes transverselyrthrough the links and spreading bar and is secured thereon by a nut 18 thus spreading bar on the opposite sides thereof by bolts 19 which are adapted to be arranged transversely through the slot 15 and the openings 10 of the links 9 and are held therein by a nut 20 thus pivotally securing the pairs of links of the lower sections to the side bars 1 so that the spreading bars may be moved outwardly and inwardly upon movement of the spreading bar. I
The links 9 of each pair of the upper sections 2 of the side bars are arranged on opposite sides of the slot 15 in the upper section 12 of the spreader bar 11 and are secured therein by a-member 21 which member has a bearing head 22 and a threaded shank 23 which extends through the openings 10 of the links 9 and through the slot 15 in the upper section 12 of the spreader bar and is held against movement therefrom by a nut 24:- thus pivotally securingthe bearing member 22 to one face of the links which are arranged on the face of the spreader bar 11.
The bearing head 22 of the member 21 is provided with a screwthreaded opening 25 the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described.
The links 9 which are pivotally secured to the upper sections .2 of the side bars 1 extend downwardly and incline inwardly from their pivoted connection to the lugs 7 and the links are arranged on opposite sides of the spreader bar 11 and are pivotally secured thereto by a second bearing member 26 which is provided with a screwthreaded shank 2'? which extends through the links 9 and an opening 28 in the upper section 12' of the spreader bar 11 thus pivotally securing the links to the spreader barin the same manner as the links are secured to the lower section of the spreader bar.
The bearing member 26 is provided with an opening 29 which is in direct alinement with the opening 25 in the bearing member 21.
The upper end of the spreader bar 11 is bent angularly as at 30 and is provided with an opening 31 which is in direct alinement with the opening in the bearing members 21 and 26. 7
An operating bar 32 is formed of wire or any other suitable material and has its lower end screwthreaded as at 33 and swivelly connected in the opening 29 of the bearing member 26 with suitable nuts 3% as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The upper end of the operating lever 32 is looped as at 35 to form an operating handle and then is twisted about the portion 33 of the rod to provide a screwthread 36 which engages the screwthreaded opening 25 in the bearing member 21 to facilitate the moving of the spreader bar 11 spreading the links 9 moving the side barsl at a spaced distance from one another so that when a pair of trousers are links 9 ,in the upper sections 2 of the side bars 1 of a shorter length than the links 9 of the lower sections 3 of the side bars 1 the side bars 1 converge from their lower ends to the upper ends thus readily conforming to the size and shape of the pair of trousers which are placed thereon.
A pair of metal caps 37 are frictionally arranged over the sections 3 and 2 of each of the side bars 1 thus completely covering the hinges 4 for holding the sections against collapsing when in their stretching position.
Tn operation:
I The trousers are placed upon the side bars 1 the rear crease of the trousers receiving the rear bar 1 and the front crease receiving the front bar 1 the handle 35 of the operating bar is turned in a counter clockwise direction thus moving the spreading bar upwardly spreading the links 9 and forcing the bars outwardly away from one another and effectively stretching the trousers.
To remove the stretching bar all that is necessary is to rotate the operating bar in a clockwise direction thus moving the links,
forcing the same downwardly, drawing the bars 1 inwardly toward one another and the trousers may be easily removed from the sections. The loop 35 constituting the handle may also constitute a supporting device so that the trousers arranged on the bars may be supported in a cupboard or on a wall or the like.
