The present invention relates to drying forms and more particularly to improvements in devices adapted to facilitate the drying of girdles or like garments to prevent stretching or shrinkage thereof after washing.
It is a particular object of the present invention to provide an adjustable form to prevent shrinkage or stretching of garments subsequent to washing and during the drying thereof.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a collapsible form which may be adjusted to correspond to the size and shape of the garment with which it is to be utilized, so that the original and desired size and shape of said garment may be retained and not changed due to shrinkage or stretching occasioned by drying thereof.
It is a particular object of the present invention to provide a garment form especially useful as a means to preserve the size and shape of a form fitting garment, such as a girdle, during the drying of said garment and subsequent to washing thereof.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a garment form which is light in weight, simple of construction and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. Further the form may be conveniently packed, shipped and stored, as it connected pivotally to a carrier 9, as at H.
carrier 9 is movable slidably on the standard. A'
plurality of spaced notches [2 are provided on the standard 2 adjacent the end thereof which carries the carrier 9. The notches are provided with suitable indicia, indicated generally as by marks I 3, to designate inches or parts of inches or a similar unit of measurement. For example, the indicia marks located nearest the end of the standard 2 which carries the notches IZindicate a garment size of smaller measurement than the indicia located nearest the middle of said standard. It is contemplated that the range of the drier will enable drying of a girdle from at least size 22 inches to at least size 44 inches.
Carried by the carrier 9 is a resilient hooked member M which is adapted to engage a notch- I 2, in order to support the tongs 6 and l in a desired position determined by an indicia mark l3.
Provided at the outer ends of each of the tongs 6 and 1 are ribs I6 and H. The said ribs l6 and is collapsible and utilizes a minimum of space in shipment and storage.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a girdle drier provided with accurate and simple to operate means for adjusting the size of the form to the desired shape and size of the garment with which it is to be utilized.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent upon referring to the specification and accompanying drawings in which similar characters of reference represent corresponding parts in the several views.
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the girdle drier in expanded position and showing a girdle positioned operatively thereupon in broken lines.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 and showing the girdle drier in folded or inoperative position.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of a modified form of a girdle drier.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring now specifically to the drawings the device comprises a standard 2 provided at one end thereof with a hook 3 connected pivotally to said standard as at 4. A pair of lazy tongs, indicated H conform generally in configuration to the body form of the garment with which the device is to be utilized. As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4, the ribs l B and H are provided with a curvature con-- forming generally to the hip curvature of the human body, or another way, with the hip curvature provided in a form fitting garment, such as a girdle. The ribs l6 and I! each are connected to an upper outer end of a lazy tong member pivotally as at 18 and I9, respectively. The lower end of each said rib is connected to the lower. outer end of a lazy tong member pivotally and slidably as at 2! and 22, respectively. Slots 23 and 24 are provided in said rib members 16 and IT to allow the pivotal connectionszl and 22 to slide therein.
In operation, the drier form is inserted within a girdle A, and the carrier 9 is moved slidably to a position on the standard 2 commensurate with the size of the garment with which it is to be utilized. The resilient stop member I4 engages the requisite notch l2 commensurate with the size {3 utilized to suspend the drier in vertical position during drying.
After the garment has been dried the carrier 9 may be moved slidably downwardly toward the end of the standard 2 by disengaging the stop member !4 from the notch in which it has been nested, thus collapsing inwardly the rib members l6 and H to a folded or inoperative position, illustrated in Fig. 2. The hook 3 may be folded downwardly (Fig. 2), and the drier stored until further use.
The modification, illustrated in Fig. 4, illustrates a drier similar to that hereinbefore described but wherein the standard 3! is provided with a longitudinal slot 32, and the bottom ends of inside tong members 33 and 35 are pivotally connected as by means of a pivot pin 35 which extends through carrier 36 carried slidably by the standard 3| and through slot 32 so that carrier 36 and attached tong members may slide to the standardtl. A plurality'of notches 31 are provided 'in'the'standard 3i laterally of the slot 32 andare' provided with size indicia in'the manner as described hereinab'ove. A suitable stop member 38 is carried by the carrier-36 for engagement witha notch 31.
"Tong member's -3 3 and 34 are provided with slots 41 and 42 through which pins 43 and .44 carried by tongmembers 45 and 45 project in ordento establish a pivotal and islidable connection between said members." Rib members A! and 45 are connected pivotally to their respec tive tong members233--45 and 3t4fi, respectively A hook All is connected pivotally to the standard adjacentthe top'thereof as at'5i.
In operation, the drier is disposed within a girdle and the carrieris moved upwardly to PX" pand the tongsand attached ribs. The stop member 38 looks the carrier in the appropriate notchcorrespondingto the size of the garment with which the drier is usedin 'the same manner as'related' withrespe'ct to the device illustrated'in Figs. 1 through 3.
Various modifications of the present inventionm-ay be practice'jdby those skilled in the artit being understood that the illustrations and description contained herein are exemplary in detail in order (that the invention be clearly comprehended, and said modifications and changes in design and structure may be practiced within the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.
