Be it known that I, Bonner X. MoAnrnUR, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Tacoma, county of Pierce, Ter- 5 ritory of \Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Combination of an Adjustable Pillow-Sham Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying 1o drawings.

The object of my invention is to provide an adjustable pillow-sham holder adapted to hold in place any size pillow-shams over the pillows, and to turn them backward and upward out of the way without folding the shams, as

hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved holder in use at tached to a bedstead. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the holder turned upward and backward. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a portion of the cross-bar of the holder detached. Fig. 4 is an enlarged view of the middle portion of the stretchers detached.

A designates a cross-bar, connected at each end to the posts A of a bedstead by means of the hinges a. These hinges are constructed of heavy wire bent to form the loops to a and 0 the angular portions 0?, and they are fastened to the inner sides of the bed-posts by nails or screws inserted through the loops; The portions a are adapted to be inserted through the eyes a, attached to the bar A, and are made 5 the requisite length, and the eyes are placed in the requisite positions to allow the cross-bar to be moved-endwise for locking and unlocking the holder in its raised position, as hereinafter fully explained.

0 B B designate stretchers provided with a series of couplingbolt holes,f, and are crossed and coupled together by the bolts g. These stretchers may be adjustably connected with the cross-bar by any suitable means. The

5 drawings represent the upper ends of the stretchers inserted through mortises or notches h in the cross-bar, and held in place by plates b, fastened to the bar over the notches. The bar is provided with a series of notches,

which, with the series of bolt-holes in the stretchers, adapt the holder to be adjusted in size to suit different size shams which may be used on the holder. It is evident that this adjustment of the holder to different sizes may be readily accomplished by changing the 5 coupling-bolt of the stretchers into different holes and by changing the upper ends of the stretchers into different notches in the crossbar.

This cord, being tightly drawn and fastened, forms the supports for the ends and lower portion of the sham placed upon 6 the holder. The sham is fastened to the holder by being pinned at the ends and bottom to the cord, and at the top to a tape (not shown) tacked to the cross-bar.

D designates a plate having a slot, (1, and attached to the front side of the cross-bar, in position when the holder is raised to slide over and catch against the hinge-wire for locking the holder in its raised position.

The holder is readily raised and lowered by hand to the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. \Vhen the holder is raised to place it out of the way, the cross-bar is moved endwise sufficiently to place the slot in the lock-plate over the hinge-wire, by means of which plate and wire the holder is securcl y locked in its raised position.

To unlock and lower the holder, it is evident that the bar must be moved in the reverse direction sufficiently to free the lock-plate from the hinge-wire.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In an adjustable pillow-sham holder, the combination of the cross-bar A, the stretchers 0 B, having a series of boltholes, f, and adj nstably attached to the crossbar, and the cord 0, extended around and secured in place at the ends of the bar and stretchers, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. The combination of the cross-bar A, having a series of mortises or notches, h, and
