Description
F. SIGRIST.
Flow-Clevis.
Patente d Nov. 2 7, 1860.
- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE FREDERIOK SIGRIST, OF N APA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA.
7IMPROVED CLEVIS.
Specifioation forming part of Letters Patent No. 30,766, duicd November 27, 1860.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK SIGRIST,
of the connty of Napa, and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement for a Clevis, which I call Sigrists Improved Clevis, and I do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot'the same, reterence being had to the ann'exed drawin gs, making a part of this specification. Arepresents acurved piece ofeither wrought or cast iron, or other metal, in shape similar to the clevis in common use, having at one end a square hole, a, passing through the same, and at the other extremity a round hole partially through, as shown more particularly in Figure 2.
B is a bolt with a square head, Il, to fit the square hole a. The lower end of the bblt has a hole through it, as shown at e, corresponding to aholein the cnrved piece of iron, (marked c.)
c is a sort of lip on the end of the clevis for the purpose of passing a thong of leather through.
Operation: To use the clevis, after the same has been attached to the article upon which it is to be used and its bolt put in place, the thong of leather, having previously be'en passed In the clevis in common use the boli: passos entirely through, projecting sufliciently on the under part to allow of a hole to he made in same for the purpose of receiving a thong of leather, pin, or other fastening. 'lheend ofthe v b0lt thus protruding is constantly liable to be strikin'g against stones or the hard ground, causing the fastenin g of the same to give way, whereas in the improved clevis hereinbefore described the bottom of the bolt not passing through the clevis, this difficulty is obviated, and the clevis at d, being smooth on the under side, is less liable to catch in anythingthat may be in the way.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Making that end of the clevis A which is to receivethe perforated end'of the bolt B with a hole, b, closed at the bottom at d, for the purpose described.
D. O. WILLIAMS, SAML. HERMANN.
