DETACHABLE LEG FOR REFRIGERATORS, 8x0.
No.30'7,040. Patented 001;. 21, 1884.
INVENTOB.
n. PETERS. Phowmhn m hw. Washington. l1 (1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HAMMERL, OF LONG ISLAND CITY, NEV YORK.
DETACHABLE LEG FORREF RIGERATORS, 800.
.QPECIFICATION forming part ofLetters Patent No. 307,040, dated October 21, 1884.
Application filed October 2-2, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn: HAMMERL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Long Island City, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Legs for Refrigerators, 810.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and eXact description of the invention, which will enable other skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a refrigerator and the detachable support or leg. Fig. 2is a perspective view of the support or leg detached, and Fig. 3 is a perspective detail view of the fastening.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to detachable legs for refrigerators or similar articles of furniture; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates a portion of a refrigerator, the bottom B of which has a slot, 0, at each end which corresponds to and registers with a perforation, D, ina board, E, to which the legsF are secured. Thisboard may cover the entire bottom of the refrigerator or other piece of furniture, or it may only be placed under portions of the bottom of the same, and the legs may be of any shape or construction desired, being secured to the board.
G is the fastening, which consists of apiece, H, of metallic rod bent double at its middle to form a loop, I, and bent outward at right angles with its ends, forming ends J, diverging in a straight line at right angles to the sides of the loop, and a wedge, K, tapering in width and in thickness fits in the lower end of the loop. The diverging ends of the fastening are adapted to rest transversely across the slot in the bottom of the refrigerator, bearing against the upper sides of the edges of the slot, and the loop projects down through the slot and the perforation in the board of the support or legs, and has the wedge inserted in the portion projecting below the under side of the said board, the said wedge bearing against. the under side of the board. The diverging ends of the fastening are preferably of the same length as the slot, so that they may be inserted up through the slot and be turned across the same, and it will be seen that by driving the wedge farther in, the wedge will not only bear harder against the under side of the board but will also spread-the sides of the loop and the diverging ends, causing them to bear against the sides of the slot and the perforation, and thus secure the board more perfectly to the bottom of the refrigerator.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desired to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- The combination of a refrigerator or other piece of furniture having a slot, the board having a perforation registering with the said slot and having suitable legs or supports, a fastening consisting of a metallic rod bent at its middle to form a loop, and having its ends bent outward at right angles to the sides of the loop, and a wedge tapering in width and thickness and fitting into the lower end of the loop, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH HAMMERL.
