Description

(NoModel?) J. T. GLARKSON. LAPEL AND SOARP PIN. 7 No. 306,901. Patented Oct. 21, 1884.
UNTTE STATES EErcE.
PATENT LAP EL AND SCARF PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent. No. 306,901, dated October 21, 1884.
Application filed January 25, 1884.
I a citizen of the United States, residing at Amesbury, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Lapel and Scarf Pin, of which the following is a specification. T
The object of my invention is to make a useful and convenient pin for holding flowers, pencils, tickets, or other articles upon the lapel of a coat or vest, and for a scarf-pin, as hereinafter more fully set forth and described. The pin is made of/ spring-wire, formed so that a spiral or its equivalent is placed between the pin or back part and the'loop or front part, and by its own elasticity any article which is placed betweenthe loop and the garment in which it is worn is thereby held in place, P
Any device may be put upon the loop or face of the pin in the way of ornamentation.
In the accompanying drawings similar letters indicate like parts.
Figure 1 shows the Wire formed for the pin, ready to complete by passing the end of the loop 0 into the spiral-B Fig. 2shows the pin completed. A is the pin; B, the spiral, with the loop or face Ocon nected therewith. Fig. 3 shows a side view, in which the loop 0 is formed so as to act as'a pencil-holder. Fig.
(No model.)
4 shows the pin with device D upon the face to illustrate the manner of ornamentation.
What I claim is 1. A lapel or scarf pin made of springwire, having a spiral connection or its equivalent between the pin which enters the garment or scarf and the loop or face of the pin, whereby the complete pin is given that elastic quality that, in combination with the garment or scarf to which it is attached, holds any article placed in or under the loop or face of the pin, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth and described.
2. A lapel or scarf pin made of spring wire, having a spiral connection or its equivalent between the pin which enters the garment or scarf and the loop or face of the pin, whereby the complete pin is given that elastic quality that, in combination with the garment or scarf to which it is attached, holds any article placed in or under the loop or face of the pin, in combination with a device for ornamentation put upon the loop or face of the pin, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore specified, set forth, and described.
