Be it known that I, ELLIsoN A. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duncanville, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Buckle, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to'the accompanying drawings.

This invention has relation to buckles for bridles, harness-breeching, the.; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.

which is preferably made in elongated rectangular form in plan view, and has its under face near each end inclined upwardly and inwardly between the integral side bars, b b, the inner edges of the inclined portions being beveled inwardly 4and upwardly, as shown.

In Fig. 2, c and d designate the two tonguebars cast integral with or having fixed bearings in the side bars, b b. `c e designate the transverse bars on which the hinged clasps j f have their bearings, and h h. represent transverse bars, upon which the inner edges of the hinged clasps f f rest when the straps are in place, and by which they are prevented from being drawn through the opening in the buckleframe. The tongue bars in this gure are shown, one with one tongue and one with two tongues, respectively, t and t" i. These tongues may be regulated as to number to suit the straps upon which the buckle is to be used. The tongue-bars c and d are far enough apart in the buckle-frame to permit the strap secured by the tongue-bar c, having two tongues in this instance, to pass between the tongue-bars and out under the tongue-bar d to any desired distance or length. The second strap is buckled to the tongue-bar d, and passes out lover the tongue-bar c and its clasp f, and between said clasp and the beveled edge of the buckle-frame at that end any desired length, so that the two straps workperfectly and entirelyindependent of each other.

In some instances I may use only a single tongue-bar, one hinge-clasp, and one rest for said clasp. In others I may desire three or even four tongue-bars, clasps, and rests; but in every case a single buckle-frame only is used to sustain the parts. NVhere these parts are duplicated, triplicated, or quadruplicated, the several straps all work independently of each other, as before stated. The double tongues on the tongue-bars are of importance,

as they hold the strap evenly in the buckleframe, and may be used on all of the tonguebars, if deemed desirable.

This buckle possesses simplicity, durability,

cheapness, and general efficiency.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

1. In a harness-buckle, the combination, with the frame (t, provided with a tongue-bar having two tongues thereon and a tongue-bar having a single tongue thereon, of a clasp-rest and a hinged clasp near opposite ends of the buckle-frame, substantially as specified.

-2. In a harness or bridle buckle,'the combination, with the buckle-frame, of a transverse clasp-rest and a transverse hinged clasp adapted to rest thereon when the clasp is closed, substantially as specified.
