(Cl. 132-48) The present invention relates to :a head covering device and more particularly to a head covering device provided with clip mea-ns adapted securely to hold the device to the hair of Ithe wearer.

Head covering devices -in the nature of bands and the like heretofore proposed have suffered the common fault that they cannot be securely yfastened to the hair of the wearer with the consequence that they will not stay in place as desired.

It is a principal object of the present invention to provide a head covering device having clip means 4at the opposite ends of the bands adapted securely to fasten the device to the hair and hold it in position.

Another `object of the invention is to provide a head covering device having new and improved clip means for securing the same to the hair of the wearer.

Other objects 4and advantages of the invention will become more apparent hereinafter.

yIn accordance with the illustrated embodiment, the invention comprises a band of flexible material such as a ribbon or the like adapted to extend across the head of the wearer. Secured to the opposite ends of the band are clip means for anchoring the band to the hair of the wearer. The clip means each comprise gripper members which extend transversely with respect to the band for gripping the hair and act securely to hold the band in place.

FIG. 1 shows the device of the invention attached to the head of the wearer;

FIG. 2 is a plan view of the device in accordance with the invention;

FIG. '3 is an enlarged view showing details of `the clip means in accordance with the invention;

FIG. 4 is `a sectional view taken substantially along line 4-4 of FIG. 3;

FIG. 5 is a sectional view of the clip taken substantially along line 5-5 of FIG. 4 showing the clip as it is when attached to the hair; and

FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5 showing the clip gripper means lopen for attachment to or removal from the hair.

Referring now to the drawings, the device of the invention comprises a strip or band 10 of flexible material, such as a ribbon or other `suitable material, which may be placed on the head of the wearer and which will conorm generally to the shape thereof. Secured to the opposite ends lof the band 10 are clip means 12. Referring more panticularly to FIGS. B to r6, the clip means 12 each comprises a body 14 which may be of any decorative configuration 4on its outer surface 16, but which is provided with a generally at inner surface 18. 22, 20 and is then looped over the bar 20 and the end portion slipped back beneath the bar 22. This looping `action combined with the gripping action of the opposite end portions of the bar 22 upon the opposite edges of the band 10 secures the clip to the band although the position of the clip can be adjusted on the band by suitable manipulation as will be apparent. Means are provided ion the clip means 12 -for fastening the saine to the hair of the wearer. The clip preferably comprises a pair of

26, 28 which may be formed of a single piece of metal but which are hingedly connected together at one end as indicated at 30. The member 26 is suitably secured :as by an adhesive to the louter surface of the bar 22 and is formed at its end opposite the hinge 30 with a hook 32 adapted to engage the end 34 of the yother gripper member 28, as shown in FIG. 5, so as to engage strands of the hair of the wearer between the

26, 28. When the band is fastened in this manner with the gripper members extending transversely with respect to the direction of the band, the band is held securely in place `and Will not shift in position on the head of the wearer.

`Having illustrated and described a preferred embodiment .of the present invention, it should be apparent to those skilled in the art that the invention permits of modification in arrangement and detail. I claim as my invention all such modifications as come within the true sprit and scope of the `appended claim.

I claim:

A head covering device consisting of a single, flexible fabric band adapted to extend across the head of the wearer, a pair of yclip means, each of said clip means comprising a body having a decorative outer surface and a substantially iiat inner surface, a pair -of parallel bars on each of said :clip means, means iixing the opposite ends of said bars to said inner surface of the corresponding clip means with the intermediate portion tof said bars spaced from said inner surface, said intermediate portion being of lesser width than said band the opposite end of said band being adjustably attached to said clip means, said band ends being threaded respectively beneath both of said bars of one tof said clip means and being looped over and threaded back beneath the other of said bars thereon with their edges frictionally engaging said bars, each `of said clip means having ya pair of hingedly connected, elongate gripper members thereon, one of said gripper members of each pair being secured to the outwardly facing surface of said 'other bar of the corresponding clip means and extending transversely to the longitudinal direction of said band, and cooperating means on each said pair of gripper members for freleasably securing the same together so as to clam-p strands of hair therebetween.
