Description
P 1962 K. v. ANDERSON 3,055,133
JACKET WITH PICTURE POCKETS' Filed March 8, 1960 PICTURE Kenneth 1 Anderson IN VEN TOR.
30 I BY -Mg 3,055,133 JACKET WITH PICTURE POCKETS Kenneth V. Anderson, 2028 Prospect St, La Crosse, Wis. Filed Mar. 8, 1960, Ser. No. 13,627 1 Claim. (Cl. 40-129) The present invention relates to a novel loose-fitting vest-like outer garment herein referred to as a jacket and which is expressly, but not necessarily, constructed and fashioned for use by boys and girls of an age attending school, college, or university.
The instant concept, as will be hereinafter more fully appreciated, may be said to be in keeping with the current fad which involves the ever-changing practice of exchanging, between friends of youthful age, so-called friendship pictures and snapshots. More specifically, it has to do with a unique picture carrying and displaying jacket which has facilities to present a clear but isolated view of black and white or colored friendship pictures and is therefore believed to be an advance in the art of jackets in the category stated which may well be endorsed by manufacturers and retailers and will, no doubt, appeal to enthusiasts who are given to the prevailing vogue of friendship picture exchanging.
In carrying out a preferred embodiment of the invention experimental jackets for the purpose have been made of thin, clear, pliable plastic material capable of effectually providing the aforementioned loose-fitting vest-like jacket. To this end, the jacket is provided interiorly with from one to a multiplicity of pockets for the insertable and removable snapshots or pictures. In this connection it has been ascertained that the over-all plastic jacket, when properly fashioned, does not distract from nor prohibit the view of the wearers clothing Worn, of course, underneath the jacket, that is, so far as the pocketless portions or the jacket are concerned.
Although incidental to the principal objectives here it may be added that the jackets will be marketed in a number of sizes, for instance, very small, small, medium, large, and extra large, thus appealing to friends of all a es.
It is further to be pointed out that models of the jackets under advisement are being made with several, more-or-less, buttons and buttcnholes extending down the front permitting the front to be buttoned and to thus guard against undesirable displacement or loss of prized friendship autographed and other pictures. The number of picture pockets may depend to an extent on the size of the jacket. Then, too, it is to be pointed out that the pockets are of the aforementioned transparent pliable plastic sheet material and, consequently, the inner and outer wall of each pocket is transparent with the result that when a pocket is empty, the clothing viewable therethrough may be recognized as an invitation, so to speak, that other friends may recognize the empty-pocket hint and pursue the thought accordingly, that is, volunteer to turn up a snapshot to fill the empty pocket or pockets, as the case may be.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
FIG. 1 is a view in perspective of a picture carrying and displaying innovation jacket constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention showing the pockets with the visible pictures therein;
FIG. 2 is a view in perspective but showing the rear side of the jacket; and
FIG. 3 is an exaggerated or enlarged View taken on the atent 3,055,133 Patented Sept. 25, 1962 plane of the line 3-3 of FIG. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
With reference now to the drawing, the vest-like friendship picture vest or jacket comprises, as before mentioned, a loose-fitting vest-like jacket. The over-all back is denoted (FIG. 2) by the numeral 6, the left and right sides by the numeral 8, the shoulder portion at 10, the neck portion at 12, the armholes at 14 and the companion front half-sections at 16 and 18. One marginal portion, say on the section 16, is provided with several suitable buttons 20 for cooperation with the complemental buttonholes 22 as illustrated.
The pockets are in horizontal rows and range over the entire front and back portions. Each pocket comprises (FIG. 3) the interior patch portion or wall 24 and the outer wall 26. Both walls are made of transparent plastic material. The rows of pockets are approximately horizontal and are uniformly spaced one row above the other as illustrated in the drawing. The insertable and removable snapshot or picture is denoted at 28. Thus, a description of a single pocket will serve for all of the pockets.
It is again to be mentioned that the pockets for the jacket and the jacket itself will be made of thin, clear, pliable plastic sheet material. The rows of pockets are made and attached as follows: A strip of plastic material four inches wide is positioned interiorly and sewed around the entire jacket along the bottom. This strip is then divided into individual pockets three inches wide by cross-sewing the four inch wide strip of plastic. Additional pockets are made available over the entire jacket by repeating the above procedure over the rest of the jacket. A space of /2 inch is left between each row of pockets for uniformity of rows and space for sewing the next row of pockets from the next strip of plastic. As the jacket narrows down over the shoulders and around the armholes, naturally the number of pockets become fewer and to utilize all available space for picture pockets, single or individual pockets become necessary in the above design. The pockets are sewn on the inside of the jacket so as to protect the pictures inserted into each pocket from fingerprints, dirt, dust, scratching, tearing, getting wet, lost or stolen.
The horizontal stitching for the strip or one row of pockets is denoted at 36, and the vertical stitches are denoted at 3'2. Since it is within the purview of the concept to attach the pockets in some other manner than that described and shown further detail on this aspect of the disclosure is apparently unnecessary.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
For use in protectively carrying and attractively displaying black and white or colored friendship snapshots, an outer garment for the teenage wearer comprising an armless loose fitting vest-like jacket made entirely of a sheet of thin clearly transparent pliable plastic material and embodying a back and a front, said front embodying half-sections, a multiplicity of systematically arranged rows of individual picture-containing pockets, each row of pockets characterized by a patch-like strip of transparent material having horizontal and vertical marginal edge portions thereof superimposed upon and stitched to a cooperating opposed portion of the jacket proper and defining a plurality of open-mouth pockets on the interior only of said jacket, each pocket thus embodying an inner ice d 1 wall and an outer wall and both of said walls being clearly transparent permitting an observer to see through a given pocket from the outside of the jacket except when the pocket'is filled with a non-transparent snapshot, said inner and outer transparent walls making it possible to face the picture on the snapshot either outwardly or inwardly at the discretion of the wearer.
