Description

March 13, 1962 T. J. CERALO RELIGIOUS KIT Filed Aug. 18, 1960 K Y OF HE iNvENToR TED J. CERALO ATTORNEY trite States atent dice 3,024,901 Patented Mar. 13, 1962 3,9243li1 RELIGIUUS KIT Ted J. Ceraio, 234 E. Locust St, Milwaukee, Wis. Filed Aug. 18, 1960, Ser. No. 50,340 2 Claims. (Cl. 296-19) My invention appertains to containers, carrying cases and the like, and more particularly to a novel kit for religious articles, especially useful for individual worship at graves.
One of the primary objects of my present invention is to provide a small, compact, light-weight kit which can be conveniently carried in one hand embodying easily accessible compartments on one side for religious articles, such as a prayer book, rosary and filling funnel, and a reservoir for holy water on the other side.
Another salient object of my present invention is the provision of a religious kit having formed directly therein a font or reservoir for holy water with a stopper closing the font and having formed therein an aspergillum so that upon release of the stopper from the reservoir, the aspergillurn will be Withdrawn therewith for the convenient sprinkling of the holy water on a desired person or place, such as a grave.
An important object of my invention is the provision of a religious kit having a reservoir therein for holy water, which can be expeditiously molded from a thermoplastic and which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
A further object of my present invention is to provide an entrance to the font or reservoir in the upper wall of the substantially rectangular shaped kit but which entrance or aperture is formed in a wall surface which is stepped or below the upper flat wall of the container.
A more specific object of my present invention is to provide a novel opening for the holy water reservoir, which opening is funnel shaped so that a funnel can be placed in the opening for filling the reservoir and so that the stopper can be placed in said opening and locked thereon in a novel manner.
Still another object is to provide a cover for the entire kit which can extend over the compartments for the prayer book, funnel and holy articles and the outer wall of the reservoir.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will hereinafter be more specifically described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompany drawings, in which FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of my religious kit, particularly illustrating the reservoir end thereof;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of my kit;
FIGURE 3 is a vertical section through my kit, the section being represented by the line 3-3 of FIGURE 2 of the drawings, and looking in the direction of the arrows, and particularly illustrating the novel compartment arrangement;
FIGURE 4 is a horizontal section taken on the line 4- of FIGURE 3 of the drawings and looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIGURE 5 is a transverse vertical section through my novel kit, the section being taken on the line 5-5 of FIGURE 4, looking in the direction of the arrows and particularly showing structural details in my novel reservoir and aspergillum, and
FIGURE 6 is a fragmentary section similar to FIG- URE 5 of the drawings, but showing my funnel in position filling or replenishing the supply of holy water to the reservoir.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter K generally indicates my new and improved religious kit, and the same includes a main body portion 10 having molded on one side thereof a reservoir or font 11, and a. series of compartments 12, 13 and 14. Pivoted to one end 15 is a cover 16 which conforms to the shape of the body portion 10 and is held in its closed position at one end by means of the latch members 17.
The body it) may be made from any desired material but is preferably molded from a thermoplastic so as to provide a rear wall 18, side walls 19 and 20, bottom wall 21 and an upper wall 22. It should be noted that the upper wall 22 at the reservoir end thereof, is provided with a stepped down portion 23, which includes a vertical wall 24 and the fiat wall portion 25 forming the: upper wall of the reservoir.
The inner compartment end of the kit is formed with a large rectangular compartment of a size and configuration to receive a prayer book or the like P, and this compartment is designated by the numeral 12. At the other end thereof the compartment is provided with an elongated narrow compartment 14 to contain coins, holy medals, rosaries or the like, and I also provide a small rectangular compartment 13 which houses the funnel 26.
A salient feature of my novel kit resides in the provision of the holy water font at one end thereof and this reservoir or font 11 is completely sealed and, of course, provided with my novel combination stopper and aspergillum 27. The Walls of the holy water font or reservoir include the end wall 20, a portion of the rear wall 18, a portion of the bottom wall 21, the upper flat wall 25 and a front wall 28. The upper wall 25 is provided with an enlarged opening 29 (note FIGS. 5 and 6 of the drawings), and this opening is formed in a depending peripheral wall 30. The inner or lower end thereof 31 is closed by the wall 32. In this wall 32, I provide a key opening slot 33 and it should be noted that the aspergillum has provided on its stem 34 latch members 35 which fit the end slot terminations and which when turned to the dotted line position indicated in FIGURE 4 will firmly lock the aspergillum and stopper in sealing position. Obviously, the stopper is provided with a head 36 having a fingerpiece 37 and is also provided Wtih a washer or sealing member 38 which fits about the tapered Wall portion 39 of the stopper head and fits against the tapered or funnel shaped wall opening. The low-er portion 40 of the stem 34 of the aspergillum is provided with a series of outwardly extending peripheral flanges 4i and these flanges pick up and hold the holy water so that when the aspergillum is removed from the reservoir, water will cling between these flanges and then when the aspergillum is shaken the drops will be freed therefrom.
When it is desired to fill my novel reservoir, I utilize the funnel 26, which is stored in the compartment 13 and this funnel is put in the position indicated in FIGURE 6 of the drawings, and holy water is poured in the direction of the arrows to fill in the rear compartment 42 of the reservoir.
From the foregoing it is believed that the features of my invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and it will of course, be understood that changes in form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, or scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A compact lightweight religious kit comprising a hollow body of general rectangular shape having a top and a bottom wall, front and rear Walls, and end walls, a transversely extending partition in the body extending from the top wall to the bottom wall defining in said body two compartments, one of said compartments being relatively larger than the other compartment and said smaller compartment being further provided with a longitudinally extending partition further dividing said smaller compartment into two separate compartments, a reservoir for holy water formed on the other end of said body, said reservoir having an access opening in its top wall, said top wall of said reservoir being positioned below the top wall of said body and a combination stopper and aspergillum insertable in the reservoir through the opening, the stopper normally closing and sealing said opening, said combination stopper and aspergillurn including a tapered body extending into said reservoir, and a series of peripheral flanges adjacent the lower end of said tapered body.
2. A compact lightweight religious kit as set forth in claim 1 wherein a filling funnel is provided in one compartment to fit said access opening when it is desired to replenish the holy water supply.
