United States Patent O CARRYING CASE FOR ARROWS Thaddeus J. Pospie, Novelty, Ohio Application September 29, 1952, Serial No. 312,066
2 Claims. (Cl. 312-352) The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in cases for carrying arrows and accessories used in archery.
An important object of the invention is to provide a carrying case in which a number of arrows may be stored and held separated from each other to prevent damage to the feathers, shafts or tips thereof.
Another object is to provide a removable rack in the case for the arrows to facilitate handling of the arrows.
A further object is to provide a cylindrical carrying case having a compartmented cap closing one end and in which accessories may be stored and providing swivel casters or rollers at one side of the case to facilitate its movement when lying on its side.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance and otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accom panying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view showing the swivel casters or rollers;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view;
Figure 4 is a group perspective view of the case, rack and cap;
Figure 5 is a top plan view;
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on a line 66 of Figure 3;
Figure 7 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevational view of one of the catches;
Figure 8 is an enlarged fragmentary top plan view of the cap taken on a line 8-8 of Figure 3;
Figure 9 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on a line 9-9 of Figure 5; and
Figure 10 is a fragmentary rear perspective view of the removable arrow rack.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration 1 have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a cylindrical case having a carrying handle 6 at one side and a plurality of swivel casters or rollers 7 at its side diametrically opposite from the handle and on which the case may rest when lying on its side.
One end of the case is permanently closed by an end or bottom wall 8 and the other end is closed by a removable cap 9 which is closely fitted inside said last named end of the case. Cap 9 includes an outer recessed section 10 having a carrying handle 11 secured to its outer surface and an inner recessed section 12 locked to the bottom of outer section 10 by a swinging catch 13 on the upper edge of a partition 14 in inner section 12 and adapted to pass through a slot 15 in the bottom of the outer section and locked thereto by turning the catch 2,734,790 Patented Feb. 14, 1956 cross-wise of the slot. The partition 13 separates the inner section 12 into a pair of compartments 16.
The upper edge of the outer section 10 is formed with a. shoulder 17 to rest on the upper edge of case 5 and pivoted catches 18 of a conventional type lock the cap 9 to the case. The inner section 12 rests on one or more internal stop lugs 19 in the case to support the inner section when the outer section 10 is removed.
A semi-cylindrical rack 20 is removably placed in the case to rest on the bottom of the latter and the rack includes a bottom semi-circular shelf 22, a top semicircular shelf 23 and an intermediate semi-cylindrical shelf 24, all suitably fixed at their straight edges to a vertical wall 25 for the rack. A bar 26 is recessed in notches 27 at the curved edges of the semicircular shelves to brace the shelves.
The cap 9, composed of the top and bottom sections 10 and 12, may be removed as a unit to afford access to the rack 20 which may then be removed and set up on the ground for removing the arrows individually there from. Also, when desired, the catch 13 for top section 10 of cap 9 may be released and the section 10 removed to afford access to the compartments 16.
The casters or rollers 7 at one side of the case facili tates rolling the case along the ground when on its side and also protects the case.
In view of the foregoing description taken in con junction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A portable case comprising a cylindrical body having a removable cap at one end, a semi-cylindrical rack removably carried in the case and including a perforated top adapted for placing arrows therein and an impelforate bottom and a bar extending vertically at one side of the rack and forming a carrying handle, and lugs internally of the case holding the rack at one side of the case.
2. A portable case comprising a cylindrical body hav ing a removable cap at one end, a semi-cylindrical rack removably carried in the case and including a perforated upper shelf adapted to receive arrows and an imperforate bottom, a vertical bar rigidly connected to an edge portion of the shelf and to an edge portion of the bottom to provide a carrying handle for the rack, and lugs internally of the case holding the rack at one side of the case.
