This invention relates to paint brushes and a paint brush.
An object of this invention oil to prevent hardening brush and also to prevent body while positioned in Another object of this is to provide a means a liquid such as an a combination receptacle and supporting means forabrushsoasto hold the .brush within a receptacle having a liquid therein, the holder including means engaging the receptacle to prevent movement of the ceptacle.
A further a container holder relative to the reobject of this invention is to provide or holder of this kind which is so constructed that it can be opened so as to release the brush therefrom .witho container ut withdrawing the from the receptacle.
The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention scribed and in part lowing detailed description ferred embodiment, the same in the accompanying drawing section partly broken away Figure l is a vertical of a receptacle for a structed according invention mounted therein,
liquid willinpartbedebe understood from the folof the present prebeing illustrated wherein:-
having devices conto the embodiment of this certain of the containers for the brushes being shown in side elevation and at least one being shown in vertical section.
Figure 2 is a detail side elevation of one of the brush containers or holders.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the als of reference designate drawing wherein like numercorresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 10 designates generally a receptacle is, adapted to ball 13 which liquid 11 is Preferably, the that it will not purpose for which provided with a receive a liquid 11. of a quantity such entirely fill the receptacle 10, the
will be hereinafter described.
In order to provide a means for suspending or supporting brushes within liquidis of the liquid L, which a character such as to maintain the brushes in a pliable condition, I have provided a container or bristle encircling holder including complementary members 12 and 14-, which are hinged together adjacent one edge portion thereas to permit rocking movement of the other. Preferably, the
into the section 14,
and the section 12 has detents 15 engaging detents 16 in the other brush encircling section 14.
The complementary members 12 and 14 have a configuration somewhat similar to thev configuration of the brush below the handle of the 6 brush, which configuration includes an upper portion 17 which .is adapted to engage partly about the body of the brush and a lower portion 18 engaging about the bristles of the brush below the body. v
.The outer member 14 has an upper portion 19 engaging about the body of the brush and a lower portion 20 similar to the lower portion 18 which is hinged at its lower edge by means of the hinge structure 15 to the lower section 18. Preferably, these lower sections 18 and 20 in side elevation are positioned in downwardly convergent relation so as to tightly hold the lower or free ends of the bristles of the brush relatively flat.
The section 12 is provided along its fiat face with an outstanding tongue 21 and the upper body 19 is provided intermediate its upper and lower edges with outstanding loops 210 which are formed by pressing a portion of the material of the body 19 outwardly and splitting this material so as to form a loop open at the bottom and the top so as to receive therein a tongue of a succeeding brush container. The wall of the receptacle 10 is provided with a pressed in loop 22 which is positioned above the normal level of the liquid 11, and this loop 22 is adapted to receive the outermost-of the brush containers, as shown in Figure l.
Preferably, the containers herein disclosed are provided with an upper beading 23 and a lower beading 24 so as to reinforce the body structure thereof and permit the use of relatively light sheet metal which may be properly stamped out or otherwise formed to provide the desired structure.
The lower bristle engaging portions 18 and 20 of the container are provided at desired 'points with detents 25. which provide means whereby the oil or bristle softening liquid 11 may enter the lower portion of the brush containers so as to keep the bristles soft during the entire time that the brush B is positioned within the container.
In the use of the container herein disclosed, where a number of brushes are used by a painter or the like, the brushes being of varying sizes, a separate container is used for each brush and in order to support a plurality of containers-in-the liquid 11, the larger of the'containers is. positioned adjacent the side wall of the receptacle 10 with the tongue 21 positioned in the support- 1 ing loop 22. The opposite side of the container from the tongue 21 which is provided with the loops 21a may then have additional smaller containers engaged therewith, which containers will be suspended from the supporting loops 21 of the first container. In this manner, the brushes will all be held in the liquid ,11 at the same level as pertains to the bristles of the brush. Where it is desired to remove the brush B from the container herein disclosed, which is mounted in the receptacle 10, the handle of the brush B can be grasped and rocked inwardly so as to force the inner brush encircling member 14 away from the outer member 12. The brush can then be readily withdrawn leaving the container engaged with the side wall of the receptacle 10.
It is, of course, understood that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
What is claimed is:-
A means for suspending a plurality oi. brush holding members in a receptacle comprising complementary substantially U-shaped brush engaging members having the lower ends thereof positioned in downwardly convergent relation, means for hinging the convergent ends of the members together, means for releasably locking the other ends of the members together, an outstanding tongue carried by one of the members intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof, and an outstanding loop carried by the other of the members and disposed coplanar with said tongue for receiving the tongue of a succeeding container, said loop and tongue being so disposed relative to the length of the brush holding members as to hold the tops of succeeding brush holding members substantially coplanar with the tops of pre-.
ceding brush holding members and to thereby determine the submergence of the bristles of brushes carried by said members in the liquid.
