AMEND lLANl, OF NQIEXV YORK, N. Y.
SHIRT.
x SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 301,266, dated July 1, 188%.
(No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be-it known that I, AMAND PLANT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to improvements in woolen shirts which are adapted for the use of eampaignelubs, lireeompanies, shooting-clubs, and similar oyganizations, the shirt having the advantage of being adapted for parading and for ordinary purposes.
The invention consists of a shirt that opens at one side of the bosom, which is made oftwo layers, a face layer being formed of two flaps that are stitched to the sides of the lower layer and adapted to be thrown into open position and attached by suitable fastening devices to the body of the shirt. bosom is provided with a )icture, monogram, or other fancy device, whie ris covered by the flaps of the front layer, which llaps are connected by buttons or other fastening devices.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent front elevations of my improved shirt, showing the same respectively in position for ordinary use or for parade or dress occasions; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same on line as m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
A in the drawings represents a shirt of flannel or other suitable material, the collar B of which is preferably attached thereto, and made of the same fabric. The shirt A is opened or closed at one side of the bosom G in the usual well-known manner, the bosom being provided for this purpose at one side with button-holes,which are attached to buttons of the shirt. The bosom G of the shirt is made of two layers-a lower layer, 0, and a face layer that is formed of two flaps, 0*,wl1ieh'are stitched to the edges of the lower bosom, O, and provided with button-holes d d, that are connected by studs or buttons cl when the flaps G are closed The lowerlayerof the button-holes d of the same are attached to buttons d of the shirt-body A, said buttons being at some distance from the bosom 0. (Shown in Fig. 2.) The lower layer, 0, of the bosom is ornamented with a campaign picture, monograln, or other fanciful design, 0", which is thereby exposed to full view. over flaps U enhance the ornamental impression ofthe shirt, especially if their under side is made of the same color as the lower layer, 0, but of a different color from the body of the shirt A. By closing the .llaps O in front of the lower layer, 0, the shirt can be used for all ordinary purposes. It has thereby the advantage that it can be advantageously used as a campaign and club shirt, and also as an ordinary shirt.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secnrcby Letters Patent- 1 The combination of a shirt opening at one side of the bosom, with a double bosom formed of a lower layer and of an upper layer, the latter formed of two flaps which are adapted to close the lower layer or to be turned outwardly and attached to the body of the shirt, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of a shirt opening at one side of the bosom, and a double bosom formed of a lower layer and of a face layer composed of two flaps connected by button-holes and studs, and adapted to be turned outwardly and attached to buttons or other fastening devices on the body of the shirt at some distance from the edges of the bosom, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as 4 my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AMAND PLANT.

The turned- 3 It is hereby certified thct the name of the patentee of Letters Patent No, 301,266, 5 granted uiy 1 188-4, for an improvement in Shirts, should have been Written and printed Amcmd Plant instead of Amend Plant 5 and that the Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein to make it conform to the record of the case in the Patent Office.
Signed, c ountersigned and sealed this 8th day of uly, A. D. 1884.
