COMBINATION WRITINGHNSTRUMENT.

1'0 all whom it may concern 3e it known that I, SAMUEL BLITZ, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented a new and useful Combination lVriting-Instrument, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to improvements upon that class of convenientpocket-instruments in which there may be combineda pen or pencil, or both, a selfinking rubber stamp, a rubber eraser, and steetknife eraser; and it consists, principally, in fixing within the upper end of the inlepad shell the before-mentioned erasers, and in so constructing the different parts that there will be little or no enlargement of the upper'end of the instrument. This desired end is accomplished by stamping the inking-pad and the stamp-shells each into a comparatively semicircular or half round form, so that when the two are closed together they are in the form of a nearly perfect hollow cylinder.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of the instrument, showing the "different parts thrown open. Fig. 2 is ail-elevation of the same with the rubber eraser and the pen in position for use. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the upper end of the instrument, with. the parts in the position shown in Fig. l and looking down upon the same at an angle to a vertical line; and Fig. 4 is a section of the upper end of the ink-pad shell, showing the manner of fixing the steel and rubber erasers within the same.

In operation, by pressing upon the side of the inlepad shell B opposite its hinge M, and at the eraser end thereof, the slight projection X upon the upper end of the stampshell O is sprung from the indenture N at the base of the erasers A V, upon the upper end of the before-mentioned pad-shell B, and by reason of the coiled springs 0 It the parts are thrown into position for using the rubber stamp C, pivoted at g to the upper end of the main shell D. The spring 0 has the end F bearing upon the inner surface of the stamp-shell C, while the end H. rests upon the inner surface of the upper end, D, of the main shell. The end K of the padspring also bears upon the latter surface, and the end L rests against the inner surface of the ink-pad B. The knife-eraser V" is provided with a cylindrical head, V, by means of which it is fixed within the upper end of the ink-pad shell. B, and the rubber eraser A is cored out, so that it may fit over and protect the knife V. The lower end, E, of the main shell may be arranged with a pencil-point, 1?, or a pen, S, and the same may be operated by means of sliding lugs and slots V V.

By constructing an instrument in the manner and of the form above described, the manifold utilities thereof will need little explanation. For instance, writing can be accomplished with the pencil and erased with the rubber. The pen or the stamp may be used and their impressions erased by means of the steel scraper.

Other forms of pen and pencil points may be used in conjunction with the apparatus, as desired.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The instrument described, consisting of the main shell or body carrying the inseribing device at one extremity, and being provided at the other with the pivoted rubber stamp and ink-pad shells, the steel knife eraser fixed within the upper end of the aforesaid ink-pad shell and shielded by the rubber eraser,which is adapted to fit over the same, and by reason of its elasticity to retain its position within the upper end of the ink-pad shell, all constructed and combined in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
