Hirsch and Lillian Small, Chicago, 111., assignors to Cutter Cravat, Inc., Chicago, 111., a corporation of Illinois Filed Jan. 16, 1958, Ser. No. 709,348 '3 Claims. (Cl. 223-85) The principal object of this invention is to providea new and improved display hanger for neckties, wherein the hanger may be readily and quickly applied to the necktie for hanging the necktie for display purposes, wherein the necktie is firmly held by the hanger and effectively resists dislocation of the necktie should the necktie be pulled while on display, and wherein the hanger may be inexpensively manufactured.
Further objects of this invention are directed to the details of construction of the display hanger and to the cooperative relationships between the component parts thereof.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art upon reference to the accompanying specification, claims and drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a view illustrating a plurality of neckties carried for display by the display hangers of this invention;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a display hanger supporting a necktie for display;
FIG. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the display hanger illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3;
FIGS. 5, 6 and 7 are perspective views illustrating the manner of applying the display hanger, illustrated in FIGS. 2 to 4, to a necktie;
FIG. 8 is a front elevational view of another form of display hanger applied to a necktie;
FIG. 9 is a side elevational view looking from the left of FIG. 8; and
FIG. 10 is a perspective view of the display hanger illustrated in FIGS. 8 and 9.
Referring first to FIG. 1, a plurality of neckties 10 are illustrated as being hung in display from a rack 11 by means of display hangers 12. The display hangers 12 carry the neckties 10 and are suspended from the rack 11. The neckties 10, if desired, may be provided for display purposes with the usual advertising sleeves 13.
One form of display hanger is illustrated in more detail in FIGS. 2 to 7. It includes a member 12 preferably formed from wire or the like. The member 12 has a substantially horizontal necktie supporting portion 17 and a retaining portion 18 substantially parallel to the supporting portion 17 and which is connected at one end to one end of the supporting portion 17 as indicated at 19. As illustrated, the retaining portion 18 is arranged substantially below the supporting portion 17. The wire member also includes an upwardly extending hook portion 20 which is connected to the other end of the supporting portion 17 as indicated at 21. While the retaining portion 18 may be of the same length as the supporting portion 17, it is preferably made shorter, as illustrated, to facilitate application to the necktie.
The display hanger 12 is applied to the necktie 10 by inserting the necktie between the supporting portion 17 and the retaining portion 18 as indicated in FIG. 5. The necktie is folded over the supporting portion 17 with the front and rear parts 14 and of the tie on opposite sides of the hook portion 20. The hook portion is then removed from between the front and rear parts 14 and 15 of the necktie and swung upwardly from the front part 14 of the necktie as illustrated in FIGS. 6 and 7 until the hook portion 20 extends upwardly as illustrated in 2,994,462 Patented Aug. 1., 1961 FIGS. 2 and 3. When this is done the retaining portion 18 swings underneath the supporting portion 17 as shown in FIG. 3 and this operates to prevent dislocation of the necktie with respect to the display hanger when the front part 14 of the necktie is pulled. The connecting portions 19 and 21 also operate to prevent sidewise displacement of the neckties with respect to the hanger. Thus the display hanger 12 may be readily and quickly applied to the necktie and the necktie is firmly held by the hanger and dislocation of the necktie with respect to the hanger is effectively prevented. The hanger 12 suspends the necktie neatly for display purposes.
Another form of the display hanger of this invention is illustrated in FIGS. 8 to 10 and it is also preferably formed of wire and includes a substantially horizontal necktie supporting portion 23, a retaining portion 24 which is substantially parallel to the supporting portion 23 and which is connected at one end to one end of the supporting portion 23 as indicated at 25. It also includes an upwardly extending hook portion 26 which is connected to the other end of the supporting portion 23 as indicated at 27. The retaining portion 24 is resiliently urged toward the supporting portion 23 so that when a necktie is inserted therebetween it is clamped in place therebetween. Here the retaining portion 24 is shown to be arranged above the supporting portion 23 but, however, it may be arranged in any other position as desired. Here dislocation of the necktie with respect to the hanger by pulling on the necktie is minimized or prevented by the clamping action of the portions 23 and 24. Here, as in the other form of the invention, sidewise displacement of the necktie with respect to the display hanger is prevented by the connections 25 and 27 between the supporting portion 23 and retaining portion 24 and the supporting portion 23 and the hook portion 26 respectively.
While for purposes of illustration two forms of this invention have been disclosed, other forms thereof may become apparent to those skilled in the art upon reference to this disclosure and, therefore, this invention is to be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
We claim as our invention:
1. A display hanger for a single necktie comprising a single piece member having an intermediate substantially horizontal necktie supporting portion of a length corresponding substantially to the width of the intermediate portion of the necktie to be supported thereon and over which the necktie is to be hung, said member at one end of said intermediate necktie supporting portion being uniformly bent back upon itself in a single bend of substantially to form a retaining portion which extends along the supporting portion and which has at least a part thereof spaced from the supporting portion substantially the thickness of the necktie for retaining the necktie on the supporting portion, said member at the other end of said intermediate necktie supporting portion being uniformly bent to form an upwardly and inwardly extending hook portion for suspending the hanger and the necktie carried thereby, and said uniformly bent portions at each end-of the necktie supporting portion of the member forming the sole means for preventing lateral displacement of the necktie along the necktie supporting portion.
2. A display hanger for a single necktie comprising a single piece formed wire member having an intermediate substantially horizontal necktie supporting portion of a length corresponding substantially to the width of the intermediate portion of the necktie to be supported thereon and over which the necktie is to be hung, said formed wire member at one end of said intermediate necktie supporting portion being uniformly bent back upon itself in a single bend of substantially 180 to form a retaining portion which extends along the supporting portion and which has at least a part thereof spaced from the supportapaaaea carried thereby, and said uniformly bent portions at each end of the necktie supporting portion of the formed wire member forming the sole means for preventing lateral dis- :placement of the necktie along the necktie supporting portion.
3. A display hanger for a single necktie comprising a single piece member having an intermediate substantially horizontal necktie supporting portion of a length corresponding substantially to the width of the intermediate portion of the necktie to be supported thereon and over which the necktie is to be hung, said member at one end of said intermediate necktie supporting portion being uniformly bent back upon itself in a single bend of substantially 180 to form a retaining portion which is substantially parallel to and spaced from the supporting portion substantially the thickness of the necktie for retaining the necktie on the supporting portion, said retaining portion being arranged substantially directly below the supporting portion for preventing pulling of the necktie arranged therebetween in one direction, said member at the other end of said intermediate necktie supporting portion being uniformly bent'to form an upwardly'and inwardly-extendinghook portion for suspending the hanger and the necktie carriedthereby, and said uniformly bent portions at each end of thenecktie supporting portion of the member forming the sole means for preventing lateral displacement of the necktie along the necktie supporting portion.
