BORDER=LIGHT FOR THEATERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,888, dated May 20, 1884. Application filed February 12, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN T. PREDDEY, of Carson, Ormsby county, Nevada, haveinvented anew and Improved Border-Light for Theaters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved border-light for theaters which is safe, simple in construction, clean, and durable.
The invention consists in a cylindrical casing provided in its top with an open offset, in front of which offset a reflector is held on the inner surface of the casing, and in front of which reflector the casing is provided with a hinged wire-netting part or door.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of my improved border-light, parts being broken out. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the line a: 00, Fig. 1.
The cylindrical body or casing A, made partly of sheet metal and partly of wire-net ting, is so shaped in cross-section that the curvature of the circumference continually changes, whereby an upright offset, B, is the top of the cylinder, which offset is left open. Directly in front of the offset or longitudinal opening B a longitudinal curved reflector, O, is secured to the inner surface of the cylindrical body, and that part D of the cylindrical body in front of the reflector O is made of wire-netting, and is be swung upward to permit access being had to the easing. The hinged part or door D-is provided with means for locking it when closed. A
gas-pipe, E, held longitudinally within the casing A, on the bottom of the same, is provided at one end with a nipple, ing a rubber tube, and with a series of burners, G. The casing A is provided with means for hanging it, or with means for holding it erect. All sooty matter or smoke that would discolor the mirror passes off through the opening B, thus leaving the reflector clean and bright. As no soot can accumulate, there is no danger of particles of soot catching fire and dropping down upon the furniture, car pets, scenes, etc. As the reflector always remains clean, less gas is used than in the herder-lights used heretofore.
The above-described light can also be used for stores, windows, 850.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A border-light consisting of a cylindrical casing having a wire-netting part, and provided in its top with a longitudinal offset which is open, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. In a border-light, a cylindrical casing having a wire-netting front and an open offset in its top, in front of which offset a reflector is secured to the inner surface of the casing, substantially as herein shown and described.
3. In a border-light, the combination, with a cylindrical casing having an offset in its top, of a reflector held on the inner surface of the casing in front of the offset, and of a hinged door or section, D, made of wire-netting, in front of the mirror, substantially as herein shown and described.
JOHN T. PREDDEY.
