i 1 K v UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH M. ZIEGLER, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
DEVICE FOR -SUSPENDING LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,493, dated August 2, 1887.
Application tiled September 6, 1856. Serial No. 212,861. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J osEPn M. ZIEGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain newand useful'Improvement in a Device for Suspending Lamps; and I do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the inventiomwhich will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a device for suspending lamps; and it consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The object is to adapt the use of a lamp to examine the interior of an oven during the process of baking, and to direct the light into the room when the same is not required for use in observation in the oven. I attain the object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I is a front view of the device for suspending lamps. Fig. II is a sect-ion of the same on the line 00. V
Similar letters designate like parts through out the several views.
A is a quadrangular iron frame with exteir sions or cars at the top, having holes to receive the rod B, upon which the said frame is suspended and along which it may be freely moved. The rod is suspended in long staples O, which are driven into the front wall of an oven, the length being suliicient to hold the lamp free from the wall. The point of suspension is directly in front of the mouth of an oven.
D is a semicircular reflector-frame, made of tin, to the top of which is attached the shield E, over the chimney-opening, and to the top of this is attached the pivot F, which has a bearing in a hole of the iron frame. In the bottom of the reflector-frame is set the vessel J of the lamp, the form ofwhich conforms to that of said reflector-frame. On the bottom of this frame is attached the pivot G, which has its bearing in a hole of the iron frame.
The lamp is composed of the semicircular vessel J, the burner I, and chimney H, and
does not differ from the ordinary lamp, except in the form of the vessel for the oil. As the lamp is suspended, it is adapted to be moved laterally and rotated on its pivots, and as the reflector directs the light forwardly, it
may be thrown horizontally in any direction that may be desirable.
The special use for which the device is intended is to illuminate the interior of an oven for baking, and for this purpose the lamp is suspended in relation to an even, as before specified. lVhen not thus used, it may be turned so as to direct the lightinto the room.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
In a device for suspending lamps, the combination of frame A, reflector D, formed as described, having the semicircular top and bot tom, the top having achimney-orifice and a shield over said orifice, and both the top and bottom provided with pivots, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH M. ZIEGLER.
