(No Model.) 7
P T. PEARCE.
WATCH GHAIN CHARM.
No. 298,705. Patented May 13,1884.
[NVZNTUEI FRANK T. PEARCE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO PEARCE & HOAGLAND, OF SAME PLACE.
WATCH-CHAIN CHARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,705, dated May 13,1884.
Application filed June 9, 1883.
To aZZ 2072 0112, it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK T. PEARCE, of the city and county of Providence, State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in WVatch-Ohain Bars; andI hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention has reference to an improvement in chain-bars for watch-chains which are made tubular and contain a pencil-case.
It consists in the peculiar and novel construction of the pencil-case,by which it is provided with a watch-key and a sliding head, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a view of my improved watchchain bar. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a view of the telescopic pencil-case provided with the watch-key and the sliding head.
In the drawings, A is a tubular Watch-chain bar. B is the central ring by which it is connected to the watch-chain. G is the fixed head on the closed end of the bar. D is a telescopic 'p'encil case. E is a watch key formed on the end of the pencil-case D. F is a head corresponding with the head 0. It is secured on the watch-key stem e, so as to slide on the same, so that when the watch-key is to be used the head F is slid inward to allow the watch-key to project, and when the pencil is inserted into the bar the head F rests against the end of the tubular bar and covers the (No model.)
watch-key,thereby protecting the same against injury. By this construction both ends of the watch-chain bar are of the same outline, and the bar has the appearance of a solid bar. It contains a practically useful telescopic pencilcase and a watch-key, which can be quickly removed from the chain-bar and conveniently used, which is not the case when the pencil and watch-key are secured to the chain-bar, the chain limiting their use and obstructing the convenient use of the same.
A spiral spring may be placed around the stem 0 of the watch-key, so as to hold the head F at the outer end and protect the key when the pencil is used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a hollow cylindrical bar closed at one end by a cap, of the pencil-case D, provided with the watch-key E, and the sliding cap F, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination, with the watch-chain bar A, provided with the central ring, B,and the fixed head 0, of the telescopic pencil-case D, provided with the watch-key E, and the sliding head F, constructed to cover the key and form a watch-chain bar, as described.
FRANK T. PEARCE.
