According to the invention a fastening device for connecting together two overlapping'edge or end portions of articles of wearing apparel comprises two sepagarment is being pressed,
England, assignor rable parts, one part consisting of a member having a base part or parts adapted to seat upon and to be secured to one of the overlapping edge or end portions of the wearing apparel and provided with integral edge portions or flanges raised relatively to said base part or parts, and the other part consisting of a member adapted to be secured to the other overlapping edge or end portion of the wearing apparel and having two spaced-apart opposed flanges or hook-shaped portions adapted to be slidably engaged with the raised edge portions or flanges of the first-named part, stop means being provided upon one of the said parts to limit the relative sliding movement of the other part in one direction.
Also, according to the invention, a fastening device for connecting together two overlapping edge or end portions of articles of wearing apparel comprises two separable parts, one part consisting of a substantially rectangular plate having opposite longitudinal edge portions raised above a relatively depressed longitudinal middle or base portion adapted to be secured to one of the two overlapping edge or end portions of the wearing apparel, and the other part consisting of a member adapted to be secured to the other overlapping edge or end portion of the wearing apparel and having two spaced-apart opposed flanges or hook-shaped portions adapted to be slidably engaged with the raised edge portions of the first-named part, stop means being provided upon one of said parts to limit the relative sliding movement of the other part in one direction.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a rear perspecitve view of one part of a form of fastening device in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is an end view thereof. I
Figure 3 represents a form of the second part of the fastening device, being shown as a front perspective view.
Figure 4 is a transverse section of this second part.
Figure 5 is a transverse section showing this second part attached to the waistband and engaged with the 2,983,979 Patented May 16, 1961 first part of the device as represented in Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of another form of the first part of the device.
Figure 7 is a longitudinal section through the same.
Figure 8 is a perspective view of the second part of the device which is used with the first part shown in Figures 6 and 7.
Figure 9 is a cross-section on line IX-IX, Figure 8.
Figure 10 is a cross-section showing the two parts fitted together.
Referring to the drawings, and more particularly to Figures 1 and 2 thereof, the one part 1 of the two-part fastener consists of a sheet-metal plate of rectangular shape, opposite longitudinal side portions of which are raised or cranked at 2, 2, relatively to a flat longitudinal middle or base portion 3. The raised side portions form flat elevated and parallel flanges 4, 4, lying in a common plane parallel to the plane of the middle or base portion 3, the latter forming, with the said side portions, a shallow open-ended longitudinal groove or depression of uniform width. The transverse width of each of the said raised side portions or flanges 4, 4, is about equal to the width of the relatively-depressed middle por: tion 3, and the outer edges 5 of the two side flanges 4, 4, are parallel to one another. The said middle or base portion 3 is adapted to be seated upon the face of the material 7 of one end of the waistband, as shown in Figure 5, so that the longitudinal side flanges 4, 4, are are raised above the said material 7; and in order to secure the device to the material two prongs 6, 6 (Figures 1 and 2) are provided respectively at opposite ends of said base portion 3, being integral with the latter. The two prongs 6, 6, thus provided project downwardly at right-angles and to attach the fastener member to the waistband the said prongs are passed through the material 7 forrning one end of the waistband and through holes in a back-plate 10 and are clenched on to the face of the latter, as shown in Figure 5.
The second member of the fastening device, for use with the first-named member shown in Figures 1 and 2, is illustrated in Figures 3 to 5. The said second member consists of a U-shaped sheet-metal frame having parallel longitudinally-extending limbs 25, each of a right-angle cross-section, joined at one end by an integral transverse part 26 also of similar cross-sectional shape. The parallel limbs 25 thus present at the front opposed longitudinal and spaced-apart parallel flanges 27, the outer ends of which are preferably chamfered or rounded, and these flanges 27 can, as shown in Figure 5, he slid under the raised flanges 4 of the first-named member, the relative sliding movement of the two parts when being engaged being limited by the transverse part 26. The parallel limbs 25 carry integral prongs 28 and the transverse part 26 carries a pair of prongs 29, these prongs being adapted to be passed through the waistband end 22 and through holes in a back-plate 23 and clenched on to the latter, as shown in Figure 5.
In the modification shown in Figures 6 to 10, the first part of the device consists of a centre panel 30 having at opposite ends set-down integral base parts 31, 31, adapted to seat upon the garment and each provided at its extremity with an integral attachment prong 32, said base parts being raised or cranked at 33 at their junction with the panel 30 and the latter being of a vertical width greater than that of said base parts so as to provide opposite raised edge portions or flanges 34, 34. The second part of the device consists of a member of U-shape somewhat similar to that in Figures 3 to 5, the side limbs 35 being of right-angle flanged section. The opening between the limbs, however, has two widths, namely, a wider portion 37 capable of receiving the panel 30 of the first part, and a narrower inner portion 38 of less width aaaam 3 than raised or cranked portions 33 of the said panel, the sides being bounded by flanges 36 which can be engaged behind the flanges 34 of the panel 30. The panel 30 is first inserted into the larger opening 37 and the two parts are moved relatively by a sliding movement to cause the flanges 34 of the first part to engage behind the flanges 36 of the second part, with the raised or cranked parts '33 in the narrower opening '38. Theclosed end of the U- shaped second member acts as a stop to limit relative movement between the parts.
The outer ends of the limbs 35 of the second part carry attachment prongs 39 and a single prong 40 is provided at the closed end of the said second part.
1. In a separable fastening device for wearing apparel, for use with a plate having laterally spreading portions, a fastener member consisting of a sheet metal plate-like frame open on one side and having two longitudinally extending limbs, an integral transverse part joining two adjacent ends of said limbs so as to form an opening therebetween, said limbs having inner longitudinal parallel flanges located on opposite sides of the opening formed by said limbs and said transverse part and having free outer ends lying in the same plane as said plate-like frame, and outer down-turned peripheral flanges along the outer edges of said limbs for seating said plate-like frame upon the wearing apparel and elevating the first-mentioned flanges thereabove, whereby in use the first-mentioned flanges can be slidably engaged under the laterally spreading portions of said plate, said transverse part serving as a stop for the sliding movement of the laterally spreading portions of said plate relatively to the first-mentioned flanges.
2. A two-part separable fastening device for wearing apparel, having a first part consisting of a rectangular sheet metal plate having an elongated base portion, two
integral elongated flanges located on opposite longer sides of said elongated base portion and raised relatively thereto, and two integral prongs located opposite each other on the shorter sides of said elongated base portion; and a second part consisting of a sheet metal plate-like frame open on one side and having two longitudinally extending limbs, an integral transverse part joining two adjacent ends of said limbs so as to form an opening therebetween, said limbs having .outer down-turned peripheral flanges along the outer edges of said limbs for seating said plate-like frame upon the wearing apparel and inner longitudinal parallel flanges located on opposite sides of the opening formed by said limbs and said transverse part and having free outer ends lying in the same elevated plane as said plate-like frame and having an overall width greater than the overall width of the elongated flanges of the first part, the inner flanges of the second part being elevated from the wearing apparel material by the outer flanges of the second part, whereby the flanges of the first part can be slidably engaged under the inner flanges of the second part, and integral prongs carried by said limbs and said transverse part, said transverse part serving as a stop for the sliding movement of the flanges of the first part relatively to the inner flanges of the'second part.
