CABINET ORGAN OASE.

ORISON O. WHITNEY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CABINET-ORGAN CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,212, dated April 22, 1884:.
Application filed June 25, 1883.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, ORISON O. WHITNEY, of Cleveland, in the .county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet-Organ Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to cabinet-organ cases; and it consists in the parts which will be hereinafter described, and pointed outin the claim.
In my patent of January 3, 1882, No. 251,752, there is provided apedal-opening cover. This is designed to be operated by hand orby the foot of the performer. My present improvement is intended to so connect said pedal-opening cover with the tilting frame of the fallboard cover of the key-board that the tilting back of the fall-board shall at the same time raiseor operate the pedal-opening cover. These results are accomplished by substantially such mechanism as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a part of a cabinet-organ case, showing a mechanism for operating the cover to the pedal-opening as connected with the tilting frame of the fall-board. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a-cabinet-organ, show ing the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of a cabinet-organ case, showing the same mechanism and a sliding draw stop or lever for operatingthepedal-openingcover; Fig/4shows an adjustable means of attaching the cord which operates the pedal-opening cover. Fig. 5 is a detached view of a sliding draw-stop for operating the said pedal-opening cover.
A is a sliding cover for closing the opening through which the pedals are operated. It rides in grooves 66 a in the brackets at the sides of the said opening. In the upper part of the organ-case, above the said opening, and secured to the case or under side of the bellows-board, is placed a double roller, B B, journaled in brackets b I). Said roller is made in two parts of different sizes or diameters. The larger one is for taking up the band or strap 0, which (N0 model.)
connects it to the cover A, as seen in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. To the small part of said roller is attached a cord, D, which is attached to the tilting frame E. The cord D passes over small pulleys d d to reach the tilting frame, and is adjustably secured to the frame by means of a small binding-block, e, fastened to the frame by a screw. In lieu of attaching the cord to the frame, it may be attached to a sliding stop rod or lever, F, fixed on the under side of the bellows-board, and provided with a knob, by means of which the rod or lever is pulled outward. This action pulls on the cord and winds the strap Con the larger portion B of the double roller. To the upper edge of the pedals is made a cross-piece, H, which, when the pedals are up, also closes the upper part of the opening; or, in lieu of said cross-piece, a hinged lid or door may be substituted, which may be raised at the same time with the lid A, if desired.
In the drawings a double roller, B, is shown. This is necessary when the drawstop is used, because said stop has a short movement, so that in order to raise the lid, which has a longer movement, the larger part of roller is required to take up more cord to raise it the required distance. If, however, the distance in movement of the operating part, as in case of the tilting frame, be the same as that of the sliding frame, then a single roller would be sufficient.
Having described my invention, I claim The combination, with the sliding pedal-lid A and the bracketed double roller B B, the former carrying one end of the strap 0, the other end thereof being attached to the pedallid, of the tilting frame E, having the adjustable cord D, which passes over pulleys d, and is connected with the roller B, as shown and specifled.
ORISON C. WHITNEY.
