Description

(No Model.) A
J. N. PROESGHEL.
- NEGKTIE OR GRAVAT FASTENER. No. 296,619. Patented Apr. 8, 1884.
JULIUS N. PROESCHEL, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
NECKTIE OR CRAVAT FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,619, dated April 8, 1884.
Application filed November 6,1883.
Io all whom zit may concern Be it known that I, J ULrUs N. Pnonsorrnn, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Necktie or (Era-vat Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to devices for securing neckties in place, and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar and necktie with my invention in position. Fig. 21's a perspective view of the preferred form of my device; and Figs. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are modifications of the same.
My device is preferably constructed of any thin elastic sheet metal, althoughvulcanite, horn, or other similar substance, or even wire, may be used.
A is the body, the upper part of which is bifurcated to form two arms, a a, with a slot or opening, a, between them to receive the shank of the collar-button, while an elastic tongue, B, that forms part of the body, is bent over and down from it to receive and grasp the tie. The tongue B is preferably bent so as to almost touch the body when the tie or cravat is not in place,'so that when the latter is in place it will be grasped with some degree of force between the body and tongue, and thereby held againstany tendency to slide laterally or to slip down out of place, while the upper portion of the tongue will effectu- (No model.)
I ally prevent it from rising after the arms a a have been made to straddle the shank of the button. a
As before stated, the form shown in Figs. 1
"and 2 is that which I prefer; but it may be varied, as shown in Figs. 3 to 8, inclusive, or still other forms may be made without depart.- ing from the spirit of my invention.
It is obvious that my device is perfectly adapted for the purpose for which it is intended, and that it can be readily stamped out by suitable dies at a very small cost.
I am aware that heretofore necktie-fasteners have been made consisting of a plate with a hofe to receive the head of the collar-button and a hook to retain the necktie, together with an elastic cord secured to the inner face of the plate, and adapted to he slipped over the shank of the button to hold all the articles firmly together; and such I do not claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A necktie-fastener consisting of a body, A, arms a a, and tongue B, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, in the presenceof two witnesses.
JULIUS N. PROESOHEL.
