MILTON H. IICNAIE, OE MEADvILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
\ BUTTON-FASTNER.
SPECIFICATION formingi part of Letters Patent No. 295,575, dated March 25, 1884-.
Application led July 6, 1883. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON H. MONAIR, a
States, residing at Meadville, in the county of Crawford and State of 5 Pennsylvania, have invented anew and useful Metallic Button-Fastening, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in metallic button-fastenings constructed of a 4Io,single wire formed into a triangular loop, as
shown by the accompanying drawings.l
Figure l is a perspective View of my metallic button-fastening attached to the material. Fig. 2 isa plan View, showing the loop before 3 is a perspective view after the prongs are formed. Fig. 4 is a plan view after the prongs are formed into hooks; Fig. 5, a perspectiveview after the hooks are formed, and showing the turning dotted lines.
Similar letters and figures refer to similar parts.
A is the triangular loop, as shown inFig. 2. The object of this triangular loop is,when the button-hook is applied it allows the button to turn part way around in the curved neck O, as shown in Fig. 5, thus preventing the disarrangement ofthe fastening or hooks. This loop is bent at a right angle at l, to form two .3o curved prongs, B, as shown in Fig. 3. The
object of the curve of these prongs is that when they are forced throu gh'the material and bent gives greater strength, as the strain is divided, t
being both direct and from each side.
Having described my invention, I would not be understood as claiming a metallic buttonfastening, broadly, nor such a fastening made of wire. I am aware that such have been in use. These do not embrace the features of my improvement.
,I claim- The improved button-fastener herein described, consisting of a piece of wire bent to form the loop A, and curved pointed prongs B, adapted to und-erliethe material and form hooks whose points are embedded in the material when strain is brought upon the button,
all substantially as described.
` Ill/IIIJLON H. MONAIR.
