SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,949, dated April 1, 1884.

To all whom it may concern..-

Be it known that I, ALFRED L. SEwELL, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, andacitizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper Wallets, of which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in whieh- Figure l is a View of the blank paper for IO folding; Fig; 2, a View of the blank folded with the pocket-divisions inserted; Fig. 3, a section showing one end in plan with pockets partly spread; Figs. .4 and 5, side and end view of a pocketblank folded.

The object of this invention is to form a neat and serviceable paper wallet or pocket-book having four or more pockets, and to construct the same in such manner that it maybe rapidly and easily folded into form; andits nature consists in the form of the blank and in the folding of the blank and its combination with one or more pocket-blanks, as hereinafter set forth and claimed as new.

The blank A is made of Manila or other suitable paper, and is out in the form shown in Fig. 1. The ends b may be cut on a true circle, as shown in the upper halves of the figure; but I prefer to clip them, as shown at d, whioh.'prevents the inner corners of the crimps from sticking up or interfering with the cut-away portions 0, and makes a neater job. Thepart c is cut away, so as to expose the pockets, as shown in Fig. 2. The blanks 4 are crimped by a suitable die, as shown by the dotted lines,so that when the ends 12 are brought up they Will fold into the form shown in Fig. 8 and the entire blank fold into the form'shown in Fig. 2.

For forming pockets, I take two blanks of the form shown in Fig. 4. and place one inside of the other and paste them into the folds of the ends I), as shown in Fig. 3, and I prefer to have them project into the crimps, as sh own in said figure, as it stiffens the crimps and gives the wallet a better action and the divisions a stronger support; but they may be made to project in far enough to be attached, if desired. The pocket-blanks B G are made alike, except that the cutting is slightly different for exposing the pockets, as shown in Fig. 2. The blank 0 is placed within the blank 13, thus forming five pockets. Asingle pocket-blank, or a greater number than two, maybe used if it is desired to increase the size of the wallet; but the number shown in Fig. 3 will give the best form, and by using folded blanks, instead of single sheets, each pocket has a bottom such as will not permit of papers-getting under the divisions, and if a further security is desired the first blank may be pasted to the main blank and the succeeding blanks into each other, so as to make the pockets absolutely indivisible at the bottom; orthe divisi0n-blanks may be pasted together 70 in this manner without being pasted tothe exterior or main blank A. By this construction I make a neat temporary paper-case, which can be used for carrying papers in a pocket or for filing them away, if desired. It is also a convenient paper article for having advertisements placed on it for distribution.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1's- 1. The blank A of a paper wallet,having the flap a and the crimped ends b, substantially as specified.

2. The blank A, having the folded flap a and criniped ends b, in combination with one or more independent division-sections, constructed and inserted substantially as described.

3. In a paper wallet, one or more pocketdivisions having its ends inserted within the wallet and attached to the crimped portions b, 0 and the edges successively cut away at lower lines, so as to expose each of the separate pocket-divisions, substantially as set forth.
