CANISTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 'No. 295,434, dated March 18, 1884.
Application filed November 15, 1883. (No model.)

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figurel is a plan or top view. Fig. 2 is a crosssection in the plane .00 00 Fig. 1.

The letter A designates the body of the canister, 13 its corner opening, and O the lid. The corner opening, B, is in the top of the canister,and both it and thelid are of substantially triangular shape, the sides of the can forming two sides of the triangle. The lid 0 is hinged onone side, which is in this example the in ner side thereof, by joints 6, which are constructed to permit the lid to swing out or upward for exposing the corner opening, and when the lid is shut it is held in that position by a catch, D, arranged on the canister to engage the angle of the lid which is at a point opposite to its hinged side, such angle being in this example the one which is at theproper corner of the canister; and it will be seen that this catch thus. acts on both of the free sides of the lid. This catch D is preferably made in the form of a spring,in order to yield to the lid when the latter is opened or closed; and it may be made in one piece with the canister or separately therefrom,according to fancy. By hinging the lid 0 on the inner side, in distinction from either of its outer sides, the corner opening, B. is left entirely free when the lid is opened, and a clear passageis obtained for discharging the contents of the canister; but the lid can also be hinged on one of its outer sides.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination, substantially as here inbefore described, with a canister having a is opposite to the hinged side, the same being at the corner of the canister.
