' SPRINKLER AND ATOMIZER.
' PatntedIFeb'. 1'9. 1884.
WITNESSES [UNITED STATES PATENT Oriuca,
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent SPRINKLERAND ATOMIZER.
No. 293,730, dated. Ifebruary 19, 1884.
Application filed May 14, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MOSES GOLDMAN, of Pittsfield, in the county of Berkshire, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sprinklers and Atomizers, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings is a full, clear, and exactdescription.
This invention relates to a simple and comparatively inexpensive and very convenient and effective device adapted for throwing fine sprays and for sprinkling clothes, tobacco in manufacture, plants, and for various other useful purposes.
The invention is fully illustrated in the anneXed drawings, wherein Figures 1 and 2 are side views of two of the forms in which the invention may be embodied, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the perforated collapsible or compressible water-receptacle which .throws the spray.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the collapsible or compressible water-receptacle in the form of a hollow rubber ball, provided on one side with perforations a a, and on the opposite or upper side with a watcrinlet, b. Said ball is seated in a ring, 1*, on a holder, H,-'to which latter is hinged a lever, L, having directly over the inlet 1) of the ball a plunger, 0, in the form of a solid or rigid spheroidal protuberance. The
so as to collapse the latter; and by submerg.
' ing the ball in this condition under the water,
and while holding it there releasing the ball from the pressure of the plunger, the water is thus allowed to enter the ball through the port or inlet 1) until the ball becomes filled. Is is then ready for use. The sprinkling being effectedby pressing the plunger down onto the ball, the plunger first coming over the port I), and thus closing it, the compression of the ball forces the water in a fine spray through the perforations a a thereof.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The within-described sprinkler, consisting of a holder having a ring, a hollow elastic ball secured in said ring, and having one of its protruding sides provided with perforations for throwing aspray, and the other pro-' truding side provided with an induction-port, and a plunger connected with the holder and adapted to compress the ball and simultaneously close the induction-port thereof, substantially as set forth.
2. In combination with the holder provided with a ring, the compressible hollow ball seated in said ring, and provided underneath the 1 same with a ledge or shoulder, substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal, in the presence- MOSES GOLDMAN. [L. 5.
