G.M.MANY.
MAGNET. No. 293,338. Patented Feb.12, 1384.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICED CHARLES MATTHEVS MANY, OF BROOKLYN, NEY YORK.
MAGNET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,338, dated February 12, IESL Application filed August 17,1882. (No model.)
Be it known that I, CHARLEs MArrHEws MANY,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Magnets, ot' which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to magnets, and it consists in a novel construction, arrangement, and combination of a magnet and its armature, as hereinafter more particularly described. f.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 are front views of two forms of. my invention.
In Fig. l, A is an ordinary horseshoe or U magnet, having each pole provided with a half or whole doveta-iied projection, a. B is an armature, preferably of softiron, provided with notches or recesses b, to correspond to the shape of the projection c of the magnet.
In Fig. 2, A also represents a magnet and B its armature; but the armature is provided with dovetailed projections @instead of notches, which projections engage'with recesses b on the inner sides of the poles of the magnet. I
do not, however, eoniinemyself tothe particular form shown, for it is apparent that other forms of projections, and other forms of recesses corresponding therewith may be einployed.-
Havingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A magnet provided with notches or projections, in combination with an armature provided with corresponding projections or notches, respectively, for connecting together the said magnet and armature, substantially as and for the purpose herein ,set forth.
2. 'Ihe combination, with a magnet, A, provided with whole or half dovetailed projections a, of an armature, B, having notches l), shaped to correspond to said projections, substantially as shown in Fig. l, and above described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention Ihave signed my naine in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES MATTHEXYS MANY.
