Description

April 5, 1960 P. BADOVINAC 2,931,369
STENCIL FOR APPLICATION OF LIPSTICK Filed Nov. 5, 195a INVENTOR. PETER BADOVINAC Zak/9f ATTORNEY 2,931,369 STENCH FOR APPLICATION OF LIPSTICK Peter Badovinac, Cleveland, Ohio Application November 5, 1958, Serial No. 772,024 2 Claims. (Cl. 132-885) This invention relates to stencils or templates for the application of lipstick to an individuals lips and more particularly relates to such a device which is adjustable to increase or decrease the area over which the lipstick is to be applied.
It is one of the objects of this invention to provide a stencil or template of the type defined which is simple in construction and which preferably is made of a flexible material such as a flexible plastic composition to enable the same to be fiexed against the face of the wearer during the application of the lipstick.
Another object of the invention is a lipstick stencil having means whereby the stencil may be properly centered and located over the lips to insure a properly located application of the lipstick.
Another object of the invention is an adjustable stencil or template for the purposes defined above whereby the same may be adjusted to a selected opening through which the lipstick is applied whereby the perimeter of the opening will conform to the perimeter of the lips of a particular individual using the same.
Another object of the invention is a device of the kind described which permits accurate application of lipstick over a stencil to both the upper and the lower lips simultaneously and to insure a clean line of demarcation outlining the configuration of the lip area to which the lipstick is applied.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become more apparent as the following description of an embodiment thereof progresses, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which like reference characters are employed to designate like parts throughout the same.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a front view of a device embodying my invention showing the same adjusted to stencil a lip area of predetermined size and shape;
Figure 2 is an enlarged section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a top edge view of the device shown in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view similar to that of Figure 1 but shows the device adjusted to define a smaller lip area to which the lipstick is to be applied; and
Figure 5 is an enlarged section taken on line 5-5 of Figure 1.
According to my invention, an embodiment of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the stencil or template device comprises a flat lower body portion 1 and a pair of upper pivoted body members 2 and 3 carried by the body portion 1 and pivotally supported thereon as at 4. The upper or overlying body members 2 and 3 are provided with converging overlapping arms 5 and 6, respectively, which are pivotally secured together, as at 7 and which are each provided with edges shaped generally to a curvature occurring along the top of the upper lip. The arms 5 and 6 are relieved at their overlapping end portions, as indicated at 8, so that the itecl States Patent 0 overall thickness at the overlapping portions will be sub stantially that of the pieces 2 or 3. The body portion 1 is provided with an edge shaped to the general curvature of the underside of the lower lip.
In further carrying out my invention, I provide a guide member 9 which is also pivotally carried at 7 and terminates downwardly in converging side walls 9' ending in a point 10, the converging side walls constituting a continuation of the curved edges of the upper members. The upper portion of the member 9 provides a finger grip 11 by which the user may position the point when the template is applied to the center of the bow of the upper lip to insure a symmetrical application of lipstick to the lips.
It will be noted that the edges of the body members 1, 2 and 3 defining the area over which the lipstick is to be applied are beveled inwardly toward the back surfaces of these members, as at 12 and 13, respectively, thus defining a sharp edge definition of the area to be covered by the lipstick, regardless of the relative adjustment of the members 1, 2 and 3.
Eachof the pivoted members 2 and 3 is carried by the member 1 by means of a screw 14 passing through openings in the respective members and on which is threaded a nut 15. Fiber washers 16 are also applied as shown in Figs. 3 and 5 and by tightening the nut 15 on the screw 14, the relative adjusted positions of the members 2 and 3 on the body member 1 may be locked or fixed.
As shown in Figure 2, the overlapping ends of the arms 5 and 6 are pivotally fastened together along with guide member 9 by means of a rivet 7.
It will be seen from the above that my improved stencil or template for the application of lipstick can readily be adjusted to diiferent areas of lip surface to be covered by the lipstick and that being preferably made of a flexible material such as plastic, can readily become arched to better conform around the mouth of the user, thus insuring a more clearly defined lip make-up after the application of lipstick and the device is removed from the face. The provision of the pointed guide member 9 is of a distinct advantage in properly locating or centering the template with respect to the center of the natural bow of the upper lip before application of lipstick so as to further insure a more clearly defined and precisely located lipstick application.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof or the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A stencil for applying lipstick to the lip of an individual comprising a body of flexible material having an opening enclosing the lip area to which a lipstick application is to be made, said body comprising a fiat lower member, a pair of upper members pivotally carried by said lower member at its opposite end portions, said lower member having an edge defining the curvature of the underside of the lower lip and said upper members each having arms extending lengthwise of the stencil and converging toward and overlapping each other at their inner end portions, said overlapping end portions being pivotally connected and each of said members having an edge shaped to the general curvature of the upper lip, said combined edges defining an opening the area of which may be enlarged or reduced by relative movement of the members on their pivotal axes, and a pointed guide member carried by the overlapping end portions of said arms for centering the stencil with respect to the midsection of the natural bow of the upper lip.
2. A stencil for applying lipstick to the lips of an individual comprising a body of flexible material having Patented Apr. 5, 1960 Y 3 an opening enclosing the lip areato which a lipstick application is to be made, said body comprising a flat lower member, a pair of upper members pivotally carried by-s'aid' lower member at the opposite end portions; said lower m mber having an edge defining the curvature of the underside of the lower lip and said upper members each having arms ext'e'ndi'ng lengthwiseofthe stencil and i 'rgirig toward andoverlapping each 'other at their iliifiif end portions; said overlapping end portions being pivotally connected and each of said members having an edge shaped to the general curvature of the upper lip, said combined edges defining an opening the area of xvhieh m'ay be enlarged or reduced by relative movement of the members on their pivotal axes, and a pointed guide member pivotally carried by the overlapping end portions of said arms for centering the stencil with respect to the midsection of the natural bow of the upper lip, said guide member extending downwardly from the overlapping portions of the arms and having side edges converging to a point to definethe midsection of the bow of the upper lip.
