SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,099, dated February 5, 1884.
A Application tiled July 17,1S88. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, "WILLIAM A. SINSEL, of Waukesha, in the county of Waukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new t and useful Improvements in Vindow-Sashes,
of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. 4
This invention relates to certain improvements in window-sashes, in which in one instance is employed a detachable cord socketplate having at its lower end a knot-socket and at its upper end lips that t under a recessed lock-plate, and in which in another instance is employed a removable section, to which the sash-cord is fastened by nails or analogous means, said section being secured in place by keys, whereby the sash may be removed from the window-casing without re` moving the window-stop; and the invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speciiication,
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a front View, with parts broken away, of a window-sash made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan `view of the same, taken on the lineas x of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, on an en- `larged scale, of one of the rope-fasteners, showing the main parts thereof 'separated from each other. y A represents the movable section, which, when in place, forms a part of the side pieces, b, of the sash B. The section A may be attached to the side piece, I), in various ways;
but I prefer to attach it by means of a tongueand-groovejointor by means of a dovetailed joint, as shown at d, thus adapting the section A to be slid longitudinally off from the edge of the side b.
C is'the rope-fastener, attached to section A, for holding the outer end of the weight-rope f,- and Dis the removable rope-fastener attached to theopposite side piece, b', of the sash B, for holding the outer end of the weightrope f.
, The fastener C is composed ofthe main casting c and the removable cap-plate c', and is held in place in the channel c of the sliding section A by the screw a. The cap-plate c and main casting c are Vformed upon the inside with the ribs e e, and the cap-plate c' is formed also upon the inside with the spur e?, and is held in place upon the main casting c by the screw ai, and lip j, formed at its upper end, which fits under the bridge cl of the main casting c and fulcrums the plate c', so that when screwed down by a screw, a2, the plate will clamp the rope between it and the main casting and cause the spur c2 and ribs .e to be embedded in the rope, and thus hold therope' ing adapted to be held down in thegroove Zi of the side piece, b', against the action. of the weight on rope fby the removable pin E,
that passes through the side piece, b', of the sash and through the lower end of the casting d2, as shown in Fig. 1. The cap-plate 7c is formed with lip j', spur f2, and ribs i the same as in the fastener C, and the casting d is formed with the ribs It', and the capplate k is held in place by the lip j,passing underthe bridge 7a', and by the screw a, the same as in the fastener C. l
F is a removable pin that passes through side piece, b, of the sash B, and also through sliding section A, for holding said ,section down in place upon the edge ofthe side piece, b, against the action of weight on rope f.
In order to remove the sash from` the window-frame it is only necessary to withdraw the pins E F, whereupon the weights of the window attached to cords f f will lift upward the removable rope-fastenerl) and sliding section A, leaving the sash B free to be taken out of thewindow-frame. Y l i I do not `abandon or dedicate to the publie any patentable feature set forth herein and not hereinafter claimed, but reserve the right Ato claim the same either in a reissue of any IOO patent thatinay be granted upon this appliwith the removable rope-fastener D, substaneation or in other applications for Letters tially as and for/the purposes set forth. e Patent that I may make. y 3. The removable section A, provided with Having thus described myinvention, lclaim rope-fastener C, tudheld in place by the re- 5 as new and desire to seoureby Letters Patentmovable pin F, substantially as described.
1. The removable section Aof the Window- T sash B, provided with the rope-fastener C, subl XVILLIAM A STB SEL stantially as and for the purposes set forth. lVitnesses:
2. The sash B, having removable section A, MILTON S. GRIsWoLD,
1o with rope-fastener Cattached, in combination ALLEN T. S'rEBBINs.
