ATENT CHARLES BURNHAM LAMB, OF PLAINWELL, MICHIGAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 291,746, dated January 8, 1884.
' Application filed September 29, 1883.
(No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, GHARLEs B. LAMB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plainwell` in the county of Allegan and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Boot-Strap, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to boot-straps; and it has for its object to provide a strap in which the strain, when pulled for the purpose of drawing the boot upon the leg of the wearer, shall be evenly distributed around the edge of the boot-leg.
To this end my invention consists in certain improvements in the construction of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure lis a perspective view of a boot-leg equipped with my improved strap, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The same letters refer to the same parts in both figures. A
A in the drawings refers to the boot-leg, and B to the strap. Said strap consists of a single piece of suitable material, and it is attached to the boot-leg A, between the latter and its lining L, in the following manner: Starting at the point c, about midway between the sides of the bootleg and some distance below its upper edge, the strap, which may be secured by stitching or in any suitable manner, eX- tends upwardly to one side, above which it exl tends, so as to form the loop G.
It then again passes in a downward direction between the leg and lining around the boot-leg and upward to the other side, above which it extends, forming the loop G2. It then again passes downward between the boot leg and lining, 4c and terminates at the point b, adjacent to a.
In this manner and by this construction, when the loops are pulled, the strain will be distributed around the entire circumference of the boot-leg, thus making the boot more easily drawn on, and also lessening the liability of loosening or detaching the strap by too hard pulling.
The construction of this invention is simple, and it may be supplied at a trifling cost.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination, with a boot, of a suitablyattached strap inserted between the leg and lining, starting at a point about midway between the sides, extending upwardly and above one side, formingaloop, C, thence down around the bootleg and up at the other side, forming a loop, C2, and thence down and terminating adjacent to the starting-point, substantially as set forth.
. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES BURNHAM LAMB. Vitnesses:
JOHN U. GILKEY, J AMES N. HILL.
