CHECK OR ACCOUNT BOOK. No. 290,432.
NITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB A. JACKSON, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
CHECK OR ACCOUNT BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 290,432, datedV December 18, 1883,
Application tiled November 20, 1882. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JACOB A. JAcKsoN, of Des Moines, in the countyl of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented an Improved Check or Account Book, of which the following is aspeciiication.
My invention relates to stubless checkbooks; and it consists in combining a series of graduated balance-sheets with the edge of a cover that has a tablet-surface inside and is adapted to retain a collection of detachable blanks. V
Heretofore stubless checks have been bound between covers and a series of record-leaves or fly-sheets of uniform size combined therewith iu various ways. The inside surface of a cover has also been ruled and prepared to be used as a balancesheet and continuous record of successive transactions; but combining a series of balance-sheets that are graduated in length with a cover having a tablet-surface in such a manner that the totals of successive entries footed up on each sheet will be contiguous and visible at the same time when the book is open and the tablet accessible for use, as frequently required in giving checks and keeping accounts, is novel and greatly advantageous.
Figure 1 of my accompanying drawings is a top View of my improved book opened and spread out flat. Fig. 2 is a perspective view. Together these gures clearly illustrate the construction, operation, and utility of my complete invention.
a and b represent the two covers or two connected sides of the cover. They are preferably made of paper-board, and may vary in size and shape as desired.
c represents a blank space, tablet, or slate surface, formed on or attached to the inside of the cover-section a by means of paste or in any suitable way in such a manner that Words and figures may be Written thereon and erased at pleasure.
Nos. l 2 3 represent a series of balance sheets, differing in length, as shown, iiXed to the inside and outer edge of the cover-section a by means of a series of wire fastening devices, 4 5 6, or in any suitable way, so as to allow the sheets to be turned up or lifted from the tablet c or to be lifted from each other, as
required, to become accessible to write there on and to read their contents successively, or detachably fastened, to be removed and led away and replaced by corresponding sheets Whenever desired.
cl represents a series of checks or blanks bound between the two cover-sections a and b by stitching, with metal fastening devices, or in any suitable way in such a manner that they can be successively detached by means of aline of perforations, f, in each blank, running parallel with itsl bound edge; or the-coversections may be connected by means of a flexible strip or back and the checks or blanks d formed in blocks and simply placed within the complete cover without fastening, or fastened iiat upon
