DEVICE FOR DISTENDING ARTICLES OF DRESS Filed Aug. 6, 1957 gal t II/inn: M Mk 65am: M la m4: bIr/ll/In If/0130 United States Patent DEVICE FOR DISTENDING ARTICLES 0F DRESS Karl Wilhelm Ericson and Carl Nils Gunnar Geneborn, Stockholm, Sweden; said Geneborn assignor to said Ericson Application August 6, 1957, Serial No. 676,614 Claims priority, application Sweden February 28, 1957 2 Claims. (Cl. 22368) The present invention relates. to a device for distending articles of dress, which is detachably placeable on a garment hanger of the usual type, said device being made of durable, water resisting material, for instance plastic, that portion of said device which distends the article of dress being made in one piece.
The device according to the invention is substantially characterized by the fact that it is provided with recesses designed to form gripping members, which recesses open downwardly and have lateral edges of engagement facing each other, said recesses being by fitting-0n adapted to be connected to the shoulder supports or arms of the garment hanger and being so formed that by a simple manipulation the device is engageable with an removable from the garment hanger.
According to a suitable realization of the invention, the portion distending the article of dress is of approximately oval form in plan view.
The invention will be more closely described in the following with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a specific preferred embodiment of the subject of the invention.
As will be seen a loop shaped element 1 is placed on a garment hanger 2 having arms 3, 3' of rectangular crosssection, this combination 1, 2 having for its object to carry such articles of dress as, for example, coats, gowns, jumpers or the like. Said element 1 has such a contour that its outside substantially adapts itself to the natural shape of the article of dress. Extending downwardly from each end of the loop 1 are projections defining spaced separable mounting elements provided with recesses or incisions 4, 4', which from above grasp the end portions of the arms 3 and 3', respectively, of the garment hanger.
Conveniently, the portion of the device conforming to the article of dress consists of form-sustaining material,
whereas the material defining downwardly extending bifurcations forming recesses, may be elastic so that the bifurcated elements in their retaining position resiliently grasp the arms of the garment hanger.
With particular advantage, the device according to the invention will be suitable as a suspension device for drying newly-washed articles still wet, such as nylon shirts, ladies blouses and jumpers. Due to the fact that the articles are kept distended by the device, a good circulation of air will be ensured, and hence the time of drying will be reduced to an essential extent. As pronounced advantages over devices of similar kind previously known it may be mentioned that the device according to the invention is easily mountable and removable and only requires a small amount of space, while at the same time it is of practically unlimited durability and is extremely economical in manufacture.
It can readily be seen that the invention also comprises all such alterations and modifications of the example of realization given above for the purpose of elucidating the same as fall within the scope of the following claims.
What we claim is:
1. In combination with a grament hanger of the class described and having supporting arms; a device for distending and supporting articles of dress and detachably mounted on the arms of said garment hanger, said device having a one piece elliptical closed loop distending membet and said distending member being provided with an opposing pair of spaced depending mounting portions, said mounting portions being disposed at the extremities of the transverse axis of said elliptical distending member and each comprising a resilient bifurcation having a downwardly opening recess constricted at the free open end thereof, whereby said device may be snapped on and off for manually attaching and removing the same from the garment hanger.
2. A device according to claim 1 characterized in that the distending member and mounting portions are integral.
