Description

June 2, 1959 1 A. ARCE I 2,888,926 ADJUSTABLE SANITARY BELT AND SAFETY CATAMENIAL PAD HOLDER Filed Nov. 2a, 1956 INVENTOR 1445205/0 12c! A /j ATTORNEY United States Patent ADJUSTABLE SANITARY BELT AND SAFETY CATAIVIENIAL PAD HOLDER Ambrosio Arce, Manila, Republic of the Philippines Application November 23, 1956, Serial No. 623,980
1 Claim. (Cl. 128-289) This invention relates to an adjustable sanitary belt and safety catamenial pad holder, and has for one of its objects the production of a simple, small, light, economical, safe and comfortable catamenial pad holder, for use by females of menstrual age.
A further object of the present invention is the production of a simple and efiicient safety pocket for removably holding a catamenial pad the safety pocket in a manner to prevent accidental displacement of the pad from the pocket.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will appear throughout the following specification and claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt and pad holder showing the pad in place;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the pad;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the holder, showing the pad in place in the holder;
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the holder;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 55 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of the adjustable belt buckle and link, the belt being shown in top plan.
By referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that 10 designates an adjustable belt made of elastic material such as garter material. One end of the belt 10 is secured to a slide or holder 11 preferably formed of aluminum, and slidable over the remaining portion of the belt. The other end of the belt is secured to the buckle 12 in the manner shown in Figure 6, and the belt 10 extends through the buckle 12 in the manner shown in Figure 6 to frictionally hold the belt in an adjusted position. It should be understood that other conventional means may be employed to hold the belt in an adjusted position, within the scope of the invention.
An elastic suspending strip 13 is looped over the front of the belt 10, and is then stitched together, as at 14, to define a loop 15 through which the belt 10 extends, to facilitate the location of the strip 13 at a convenient and comfortable position in the center and in front of the person wearing the belt. A second elastic suspending strip 16 is looped over the rear portion of the belt to define a loop 17 which is permanently stitched to the belt 10 to anchor the strip 16. The strip 13 is provided with depending diverging portions 18 and 19, the ends of which are fixed to the ends of a pocket or pocket member 20. The pocket or pocket member 20 is preferably formed of plastic cloth or other moist-proof material, and comprises an elongated body having an open central top portion 21. The pocket member 20 is provided with covers 22 and 23 at the ends thereof, thereby defining recesses or cavities 24 and 25 at the respective ends of the pocket or pocket member.
The covers 22 and 23 are provided with apertures 26 and 27 respectively. An absorbent padding or filler 28 made of absorbent cotton and absorbent paper covered with an absorbent soft cloth or gauze is placed in the open central top portion 21 of the pocket member 20, and the extending terminals 29 and 30 of the padding 28 are extended into the recesses or cavities 24 and 25. These terminals 29 and 30 are then extended through the respective apertures 26 and 27 to draw the end portions 31 and 32 of the padding or filler 28 into the respective recesses or cavities 24 and 25. The terminals 29 and 30 are then securely tied to the respective depending portions 18 and 22 of the strips 13 and 16, or otherwise secured thereto, to firmly anchor the end portions 31 and 32 in the recesses or cavities 24 and 25. The padding or filler 28 may be of the well-known KOTEX type of filler which is constructed substantially as shown in Figure 2.
The pocket or pocket member 20 is provided with a soft dull edge by sewing the edge with a silk thread 33 through the medium of an edging sewing machine. The edges of the covers 22 and 23 are provided with a soft dull edge by sewing the edge with a silk thread 34 in a similar manner. Such soft dull edges will contribute to the comfort of the pocket or pocket member 20.
It should be understood that a very convenient and comfortable catamenial pocket device has been produced for use by mothers of new-born babies after delivery, or where a collecting absorption device is necessary after operations, or where required in other medical treatments. Furthermore it will be noted that by encasing the ends of the pad within the pocket or pocket member and passing the terminals through the apertures 26 and 27, and then securing the same, the pad will be firmly held in place while at the same time being easily removable when required. The used pad may be removed and discarded, and the pocket or pocket member may be re filled so as to allow the pocket member to be used from time to time.
The sewing of the edges of the pocket member by a silk thread will avoid irritation and will add greatly to the comfort, as well as to the protection of the edges of the pocket.
The adjustable belt as defined will provide a flat supporting element to facilitate quick and easy adjustment or removal, and will avoid any protruding ends and provide a complete circular belt adjustable for all sizes.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A device of the class described comprising a pocket member, a supporting belt therefor, said pocket member comprising an elongated body having covers at the re spective ends thereof defining recesses, a removable absorbent pad having the end portions thereof fitted in said recesses, said covers having apertures formed therein, said absorbent pad having terminals extending through said apertures in said covers, said belt having depending portions secured to said pocket member, and said terminals being tied to certain of said depending portions.
