Description

C.- E. PECKNOLD SANITARY GIRDLE May 5, 1936.
Filed Nov. 26, 1934 Fig. 8
[nvemfor Cecil E. Pecknold Azforney Patented May 5, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SANITARY GIRDLE Cecil E. Pecknold, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary girdles and catamenial devices generally, and the objects of the present invention are to improve upon my previous inventions of this nature as disclosed in my previous application filed under Serial Number 648,502.
A particular object of the present invention is to improve upon and simplify the constructional details of the two aforesaid applications.
A further object of my present invention is to provide a more economical structure to meet commercial competition.
A still further object of my invention is to provide an article of this nature manufactured of materials available in all countries at nominal prices, whereby the article can be merchandised at a reasonable price.
With these and other objects in View I have invented the sanitary girdle which is the subject matter of this application and which is further described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a pattern plan of the pad retaining member previous to hemming and folding.
Figure 2 is a pattern plan of the pad retaining member showing the hemming.
Figure 3 is a plan of the pad retaining member showing the folding over of the tongue to create a pocket-like structure with apertures.
Figure 4 is a plan of the belt assembled to illustrate the pad retaining member in combination with suspension means, and various parts broken away to show the mode of assembling.
Figure 5 is an oblique view of the pad retaining member with the suspension straps broken away illustrating a sanitary pad in position with the ends of said pad drawn through the apertures.
Figure 6 is an oblique view of the assembled belt assembled to comprise a one-piece structure.
Figure 7 is a three-quarter front view of the belt upon the wearer.
Figure 8 is a three-quarter back view of the belt upon the wearer.
In this drawing like numerals indicate like parts, and the numeral 9 indicates the scalloped and narrowed portion of the pouch member 22 (see Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4) intermediate the latteral extensions I0, indicated in dotted lines in Figure 3 and the ends II and I2.
The lateral extensions II] are folded over and secured on their longitudinal edges I3 to comprise the loops I4 having narrowed and restricted outer openings I5 and I5A. Under the loops I4 are secured the ends of an absorbent pad I 6 (see Figure 5) and the restricted openings I5 and I5A prevent in a great measure slipping and movement of the absorbent pad I6 when the article is in use.
Secured upon the front end II of the pouch 5 member 22 is the pelvis strap I1, the upper end of which is secured to the waist girdle I8 and at the opposite end I2 of the pouch a pair of supporting members I9 comprising buttock straps, is shown secured to the reinforced and folded 10 over edges 20 shown in Figure 2.
All edges and securing ends of the pouch member 22 are folded over to comprise reinforcement of these parts, as indicated in Figure 2. The upper ends of the buttock straps I9 are also secured to the waist girdle I8 and all the ends of the pelvis strap I1 and buttock straps I9, where they join on to the pouch 22 and waist girdle I8, are further reinforced to separate reinforcing pieces 2| (see Figure 4).
The restriction of the opening ISA at the end I2 of the pouch member 22 is formed by the inner edges of the buttock straps I9 narrowing the outer opening of the loop I4. 25
The above description covers the salient points of construction of the sanitary girdle as at present designed for commercial production and to meet modern manufacturing conditions, and differs in essential features of design from that disclosed in my previous application before referred to.
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
In a sanitary girdle, a pouch member comprising a body having inwardly curved sides intermediate the ends of the body, said body at at the ends having laterally extended portions folded over and joined along their longitudinal meeting edges to form cross loops, the pouch member being wider across the loop at one end than at the other and provided with a pair of diverging strap receiving portions with a central unobstructed passage between said portions, the narrower end of the pouch member having a central strap receiving portion, and pouch sustaining straps secured in and to said portions, the central portion of the pouch member being substantially narrower than the end portions, whereby an absorbent pad held in said pouch member will overlap the said central portion to a substantial degree.
