PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB w. LOEPER, or INDIANAroLIs, INDIANA.
' BROOM-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 288,181, dated November 6, 1883.
Application filed January 15, 1883. (No model.)
To (LZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AooB W. LOEPER, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom Supports or Clamps, of which the following is a specification. p
The object of my invention is to provide a broom-support or broonrclamp for the pur- IO pose of supporting and at the same time holding together and in shape the brush part of brooms, made from broom corn or other material, whether said brooms be provided with long or short handles, I accomplish this purpose by forming a support or clamp of wire,
and refer to the accompanying drawing, and letters of references thereon, all of which are made a part of this specification, similar lettars referring to similar parts in the figure.
The figure represents a perspective view of my device, made of steel or iron wire, fastened to the wall by means of a round bolt or nail, and, as indicated by the dotted lines, showing the broom suspended therein.
This device is formed by winding a piece of wire around a mandrel or any other suitable object to form the eye I, thence bending the same downward to form the long spring-legs D D. At the ends of saidlegsDDthe clamps C O are formed, and there turned at right angle and upward, when the top clasps, 0 C are formed. Then the ends of the wire are turned upward and around said mandrel, forming the eye.
The advantage of my device is to preserve 3 5 the brush parts of the broom from warping, thus preserving its usefulness longer than the present method, and at the same time securing a safe and neat receptacle for brooms.
Having thus described my invention, its purposes, objects, and advantages, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The broom support or clamp formed of one continuous piece of elastic wire, having upper and lower spring-arms for clasping the broom-head, and an eye or loop, as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand andseal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 12th day of January, A. D. 1883.
