4 Claims. 01. 4-159 This invention relates to an improved hair-rinsing attachment for sinks and washbasins.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a more practical and eflicient deviceof this kind which involves a standard which is desirably adapted to be supported on the bottom of a sink or washbasin beneath the faucet thereof, and a vertically adjustable shower head conduit which is connectible to faucets of different sizes and. heights above the bottoms thereof, the shower head conduit being spring-pressed into engagement with the sink or washbasin faucet, so that shampooed hair can be conveniently and efiiciently rinsed, without the stooping and bending into the sink otherwise necessary for a rinsing operation therein; 1 i t V,

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated, which is simple 'in construction, is composed of a small number of simple and easilyassembled parts, and which can bemade in attractive Well-finished, rugged, and durable forms at relatively low cost.

Other important objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein, for purposes of illustration only, a specific form of the invention is set forth in detail.

Figure l is a fragmentary vertical longitudinal section taken through a sink and showing in side elevation a device of the invention installed therein, with phantom lines showing a preliminary position of the shower head component of the device;

Figures 2 and 3 are enlarged fragmentary horizontal sections, taken on the lines 22 and 3-3 of Figure 1;

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical transverse section taken on the line 4--4 of Figure 3, through the faucet socket; and

Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary side elevation, showing details of the adjustable spring positioning means for the shower head conduit.

Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the numeral generally designates a substantially conventional sink or washbasin having a bottom 12 having therein a drain 14 spaced longitudinally from a vertical end Wall 16 surmounted by a flange 18 on which is mounted a water faucet 20 having a depending discharge end 22 extending into the sink 10 in upwardly spaced relation to the bottom 12 at a point between the drain 14 and the end wall 16.

Shown installed removably in the sink 10, and generally designated 24, is a device of the present invention, comprising a vertically elongated, preferably tubular standard 26, having a foot 28 secured on its lower end, which is preferably in the form of a suction cup, for securable engagement with the sink bottom 12 at a point preferably between the drain 14 and the end wall 16, and, in any event, at a point close to vertical alignment with the discharge end 22 of the faucet 20. Mounted on the standard 26 for vertical movement relative thereto, is a shower assembly, generally designated 32, which comprises a J-shaped rigid pipe 34 having a vertically elongated straight portion 36 terminating at its upper end in a lateral goose-neck 38 having a depending shower nozzle or head 39 on its outer end; and merging at its lower end in a crook 40 which has on its upper free end a preferably cylindrical faucet engaging socket 42 having an inturned annular flange 44 on its upper end which mounts a faucet adapter 46 in the upper end of the socket 42. The adapter 46 is of flexible and compressible rubber or rubber-like material, is annular in form, and has a peripheral groove 48in which the flange 44 is securably and supportably engaged. The

adapter 46 has a central vertical bore 50, smaller in diameter than the faucet discharge end on which the adapter is to be circtunposed, and a beveled concave up-- per end 52 which facilitates engagement of and any necessary stretching and compressing of theadapter 46, onto the discharge end22 of faucets of differing diameters. 1

The vertical portion 36 of the J-shaped pipe 34 has engaged thereon similar upper and lower mounting clamps 54 and.56, respectively, which preferably comprise complementary horizontally elongated bars 58, 58 having registered V- shaped notches 60, in their facing sides near the one end of the bars 58 which clampably embrace the verticalportion 36 of the shower head pipe; and semicircular notches 62 near their other ends which slidably receive the standard 26. A clamping bolt 64. traverses the bars 58 midway between the notches 60, 62 for clamping the clamp 54 and 56 on the vertical portion 36 of the shower pipe 34.

The device further comprises a spring assembly 66 for urging the shower pipe 34 upwardly relative to the standard 26 so as to press the socket 42 and the adapter 46 upwardly into engagement with and maintain engagement of the discharge end 22 of the sink faucet 20. The spring assembly 66 comprises a helical contractile spring 68 which is slidably circumposed on the standard 26 above the lower clamp 56 and below the upper clamp 54, the spring 68 having an arm 70 on its lower end which is hooked under the lower clamp 56, as shown in Figure 5. A transversely elongated tiltable locking plate 72 has intermediate its ends a hole 74 slightly larger in diameter than and receiving the standard 26 at a point above the spring 68, the hole 74 having a squared edge 76 arranged to bite into the standard 26 in a tilted position of the locking plate 72 and maintain the same at a vertically selected location on the standard 26. The spring 68 has on its upper end an arm 78 hooked in an opening 80 in one end 82 of the locking plate 72, so that the locking plate is normally maintained by the spring 68 in a tilted standard-gripping position. ,Manual uptilting of the other end 84 of the locking plate 72 trees the locking plate to be manually adjusted vertically along the standard 26 to adjust the tension of the spring 68 for securely holding the adapter 46 engaged with the faucet end 22. The clamps 54 and 56 slide along the standard 26 to positions determined by the tension of the spring 68 and the relative height of the faucet discharge end 22. Control of flow of water through the shower head is produced by operation of the usual handle means (not shown) associated with the faucet 20.

Although I have shown and described herein specific forms of the invention, it is to be understood that any change or changes in the forms of and in the relative arrangements of components are contemplated as being within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the claims appended thereto.

What is claimed is: 1. In a sink shower attachment, a standard having a I sinlc bottom engaging foot on its lower end, a shower head pipe having a verticalportion clamp" means secured onsaid vertical portion andslidably and-supportably engaged on said standard,a shower head onthe upper endof said vertical portion, a crook on thelower end ofsaid vertical portionhaving a 'free end, a faucet discharge end engag ingLsoc'ket on said free end, and a spring assembly acting between said shower head pipe and said standard and urging said shower head'pipe upwardly relative to the standard; said spring assembly comprising: a helical contractile springcirc umposed on said standard and connected at its lower end to said clamp means-, a tiltable locking plate having an opening therein longer than the width of the standard and receiving the standard at-a point above the spring, said opening having an edge arranged to bite into the" standard and-- maintain avertically adjusted position of the lock-ingplateonthe standard-while the locking plate is tilted in one directionagainst: the resistance of said spring, said spring having an: upper endconnected to an end of said locking plate with the spring in a stretched condition.

In a sink shower attachment, a standard having a foot on its lower end, a shower head pipe having a verti cal portion clamp means secured on said vertical portion and slidably and snpportably engaged on said standard, ashower head on the upper end of said vertical portion, acrook; onthe lower end of: said-vertical portion'having a free end, a'faucebdiseharge end engaging socket on said free end, and a spring assembly acting between said shower head pipe and said standard and-urging'said shower head: pipe upwardly relative to=the standard, said spring assembl comprising a helical contractile spring circum posed'onsaid standard and connected at its lower end to said clamp means, a tiltable locking plate having an opening longer than the width of the standard and receiving the standard at a point above the spring, said opening defining an edge arranged to bite into the standard and maintain a vertically adjusted position of the locking plate on the standard while the locking plate is tilted in one direction, said spring having an upper end connected to an end of said locking plate with the spring in a stretched condition, said clamp" means comprising upper end lower clamps located severally above and below said spring, the lower end of the spring being connected to the lower clamp" and said locking plate being located between the spring and the upper clamp.

A sink shower attachment comprising a standard, a shower pipe positioned alongside of said standard, means connecting the standard and the shower pipe together for endwise movements relative to each other, a tiltablc locking, plate havingan opening larger in diameter than the standard, said locking plate being circumposed on saidstandard and having opposed clamping edges which in the tilted position ofi said lockingzplatebite into the standard to maintainthe locking plate at a selected positionon the standard, and a spring secured to andstretched between an end ofsaidlockingplateand a portion of saidshower pipe 4. A sink shower attachment according to claim 3, wherein said connecting means comprises an element se cured to the shower pipe and slidably embracing. said standard and constituting said portion, said locking plate beingspaced alongthe standard from said-element. 1
