NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY V. QUINN, OF FARIBAULT, MINNESOTA.
BUTTON-PIN. x
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 286,222, dated October 9, 1883. Application filed April '30, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
- Be it known that I, MARY V. QUINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Faribault, in the county of Rice and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Button Pin or Fastening, of which the following is a specification.
Referring to the drawing, which consists of a single figure, my invention is shown as consisting of a piece of metal one end of which is pointed and formed into a pin and the opposite end provided with a shield or guard to receive the point of the pin, the strip being bent upon itself. The pin or button fastening may be made from any suitable blank of metal; but I prefer to construct it from suitable metallic wire. In the center of the pin portion, and equal distance from the ends when bent, there is a curve or bend made to receive the eye or loop of the button, this curve or bend forming aloop when put through the cloth and through the eye or loop of the button, and the point placed in the shield prevents the fastening from sliding.
With this device buttons can be attached and removed at pleasure, and the draw being upon the center of the button pin or fastening, it is not liable to tear the cloth.
The pin or button fastening is especially use ful, as no eyelets are necessary to be worked, and the buttons can be removed for laundry purposes instantly.
The shield consists of aflat piece of metal bent into the desired form upon the end opposite the point, and attached to it to receive the point of the pin. It may be constructed of any suitable blank of metal.
I claim as my inve'ntion An improved butto1i-fastener, composed of a piece of metal bent or folded centrally upon itself, one portion, forming a pin, having its end pointed and provided with an intermediate bend or loop, as shown, to receive the eye of a button, and provided with a shield for the pin-point, all substantially as described;
