WILLIAM J. rmcxmenn, or CQLUMBIANA, OHIO.
WINDOW-POLE FOR CURTAINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,886, dated October 2, 1883.
- Application filed August 10, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. FLIcKIN- GER, of Oolumbiana, in the county of Columbianaand State of Ohio, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Window-Poles for Curtains; and I do hereby declare that the following is a fu1l, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon.
. My'invention consists in providing windowpoles for curtains with a longitudinal groove extending the whole length of the pole, and combining therewith a series of adjustable carriers for the curtain or curtains, said poles being adapted to support the fixtures for the window-blinds, all of which will hereinafter more fully and at large appear.
To enable others skilled in the art with which my invention is most nearly connected to make and use it, I will proceed to describeits construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side view of my improvement in window-poles for window-curtains. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same at line y 5: Fig. 3 is a side view of the adjustable carriers for the windowcurtains. Fig. 4 is an end view of the window-pole, representing the fixtures for window-blinds attached thereto.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawings, A represents the window-pole, in which is made a T-shaped groove, B, for the reception of the part a of the adjustable carriers G, which may be moved back and forward in the groove B for adjusting the curtain or curtains attached to the carriers 0. A suitable stop may be placed in the groove B at each end of the pole A.
To the pole A may be attached the fixtures for the window-blind, as indicated at D in Fig. 4..
By constructing the windowpole as hereinbefore described it can be made of any-desired contour, and furnished with orna1nentablinds to the pole A, as shown in Fig. 4, the
blinds and curtains can be removed from the window by simply removing the pole A, which will be an advantage to the housewife when cleaning windows, and said blinds and ourtains again placed in position by the replace ment of the window-pole A.
The advantage of the construction and operation of my improvement in window-poles over that of the ordinary make will readily appear by a comparison of the old form and construction with the form and construction hereinbefore described, which serves the double purpose of supporting both the window-blind and the curtains.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as of my invention is 1. A window-pole for curtains, having a longitudinal T-shaped groove tlierein for the reception of adjustable curtain-supports, substantially as hereinbefore described, and for the purpose set forth: I
' 2. A window-pole for curtains, having a longitudinal-groove, 13, therein, communicat ing with a slot in the under side of it, in co1nbination with carriers 0, consisting of part a and eye b, said part a in cross-section corresponding in form and area to bore of the groove B, substantially as herein described.
WILLIAM J. FLIOKINGER.
