JAMES MONTGOMERY, OFMARSEILLES, ILLINOIS.
CURTAIN- FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION `forming' part of Letters Patent No. 224,837, dated February 24, 1880.
l Application led July 7, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MONTGOMERY, of Marseilles, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gurtain-FiXtures 5 and I do l hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front View, aud Fig. 2 is a side view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
rllhis invention relates to curtain-tiXtures5 and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be herein after fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Arepresents the windowframe, the sides of which, B B, are provided with hinged' brackets C C of suitable length, and so arranged` that when raised, as shown in the drawings, they shall ,reach above the upper sash. Cords I) l) are attached to the ends of the brackets C C, passedthrough loops or eyes E E in the top of the window-frame, and provided with rings F or other devices with which they may be attached to a hook, Gr, in the side of the window-frame. It will be seen that by these cords the brackets C C may be simultaneously raised or lowered and retained in any desired position.
` The brackets G C are provided with *lf-shaped slots H, forming bearings for the curtain-roller I. The latter, it will be seen, can be easily inserted or removed, and, owing to the T shape of the slots, it will always be safely retained in any position which the brackets may occupy.
To secure the curtain-cord J, I employ a at spring, K, secured to the side of the windowframe, its lower end confined by and pressing against a bail, L. The curtain-cord is passed between the spring and the bail, the friction between which holds it andthe curtain in any desired position.
By means of the hinged brackets the curtain-roller may be let down to the lower sash, which may be darkened, while the light is admitted through the upper one; or it may be thrown out from the sashes, which may be partially darkened, without the Ventilation being impaired by the curtain.
The curtain -cord fastening is simple and convenient, and enables the curtain to be raised or lowered with ease.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesl. The combination, with a curtain-roller, of the hinged brackets O C, having T-shaped slots H, and the cords for adjusting and holding said brackets, asset forth.
2. The combination, with the curtain-roller journaled in hinged brackets C O, of the operating-cord J, spring K, and bail L, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J AMES MONTGOMERY.
Witnesses J. H. GooDELL, M. D., WM. R. FERGUSON.
