DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,208, dated August 14, 1883,
- I Application filed October 13, use. ModeL To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that we, XVILLIA B. Cocaine and HENRY A. HAMLIN, of Minneapolis, in. the county of Hennepin, and in the State of Minnesota, have inventedcerta'in new and use- 4 ful Improvements in Door-Hangers {and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in hanging and sliding doors; and it has for its object to obviate the objections which have heretofore existed in regard to this class of doors, such doors requiring skilled labor in hanging, and are liable to become disarranged by the settling of the structure or the springing of the studs from which the doors are sus pended; and it consists in the devices hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 represents a view partly in section and partly in elevation of our invention, and Fig. 2 represents a vertical transverse section on theline a: m of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, the letter A indicates two brackets, each of which consists of a head or a, the-lower extremities of the latter terminat-' ing in lateral projections or seats 0. These brackets are made of cast metal, preferably screw or other fastening apertures, by which said rails in the present instance being 10- the said rails are arranged to travel the flanged the lugs Fof the plates G, which rest upon said axle and play loosely thereon as the door is moved back and forth. The said plates are attached to the under side of the bar H by means of screws or otherwise. Through the hangers I, which are screw-threaded at their the brackets before The letter M, indicates the door, and N the stiles thereof, which are provided with recesses I, for the purposes. hereinafter explained. Through the stiles extend vertically from the recessesthe rods R, which are flattened at their upper ends, and provided with slots S, terminating below in apertures T,'the apertures being of such size as to pass readily over the buttons at the ends of the hangers,
and the slots of such width as to embrace the v shanks of the buttons, so as to securely hold the rods and suspend the door.
The above-mentioned bar H is in length equal to the width of the door, and two pairs of rollers are provided for the bar. By means of the nuts U, which set into the recesses P and are secured to thescrew-threaded lower ends of the rods R, the door may be adjusted to compensate for sagging.
The'brackets, which may be made of metal or wood, are fastened to the studding of one of the partitions, forming the space in which the door travels. After the said brackets are properly adjusted, the other partition may be' set in place without regard to the tracks,'as
place.
The under edges of the brackets, it will be observed, are curved to allow the passage of the wheels and bar and prevent the tracks from I we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent, is-
mentioned hold them in 1 1. In a door-hanger, the combination, with i the cast-lron brackets A, consisting each of the respective heads or cross-pieces A, and the vertical extensions a, having each apertures for the fastening-screws, and. terminating in lugs, forming track-rail seats, of the track-rails B, fitted to and supported by the saidlugs, the respective brackets being each located at or near the ends of the tracks, as and for the purpose shown anddescribed.
2. The combination, with the roller-bar H,
of the hangers I, provided with lateral lower in presence of two witnesses, this 7th day of extremities having suitable buttons, L, and September, 1882. the rods R, slotted and provided with apertures, as described, the said rods being secured p EKKYE Q 5 to the stiles of the door and adapted to conf nect with the hangers to support the door, \Vitnesses: substantially as specified. R. W. CUMMINGS, Intestimony whereof we affiX our signatures, H. P. HERRING.
