To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORIEN STATTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Solsberry, in the county of Greene and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a door hanger, and more particularly to car or barn doors wherein the door is adapted to fit flush with the side of the structure and which is adapted to move laterally upon the supporting members and then longitudinally along the side of the car or barn when it is desired to open the same.
Another object of this invention is the production of a carriage member which is adapted to support the hanger brackets to which the door is secured, whereby the door may first be moved laterally and then longitudinally when the same is being opened.
Another object of this invention is the production of a plurality of hanger blocks which have their ends provided with rollers and through which the hanger brackets are adapted to pass, so as to ride upon these rollers, the blocks being so formed as to hold the brackets against lateral movement when passing therethrough.
\Vith these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. 1

Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals 1 represents the side of a car or barn which is provided with a sill 2 supported upon the floor or bottom thereof,
as indicated at 3. This sill 2 is Provided with alongitudinally extending guiding rib 4 upon its outer portion and is adapted to support- .the door 5 upon its upper portion, this door 5 being adapted to normally close the opening 6 formed in the side of the car or barn 1. This door 5 is adapted to fit flush with the side of the car or barn, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 4, so as to abut and normally rest against the vertical beams 7 when the door is in a closed position. By allowing the door to fit flush with the side of the car or barn 1 and within the opening 6, it will be seen that the weather will be prevented from beating around the side 6 of the door while the longitudinal movement of the door will be eliminated while thesame is in a closed position.
A supporting track 8 having an upturned flange 9 at its outer side is supported by the bolts or other securing members 10 to the standards 11. This track is positioned above the door 5, as clearly disclosed in Figs. 1, 2 and 5, and is of sutiicient length to allow the door to be opened or closed for allowing the door to move longitudinally along the track. This track provided with a longitudinally extending slot 12 through which the body portion of the carriage is adapted to pass when the same is supporting the door. This carriage comprises hanger blocks 13 which extend down *ardly through the slot 12, as clearly disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2. Each hanger block 13 is supported by an axle 14 upon which the wheels 15 are rotatably mounted. These blocks are held in a fixed spaced relation to each other by means of the strip 16 which is provided with the depending ends 17. These depending ends 1'! are adapted to fit over the side portions of the hanger blocks 13, as disclosed in Figs. 5 and (5, whereby the blocks will be held in a spaced relation thereby forming a substantially rigid carriage. Since the hanger blocks 13 pass downwardly through the slot 12 and the wheels 15 are positioned upon the upper portion of the track 8, the carriage may be moved freely from one end of this track to the other as the wheels 15 are placed so as to span the slot 12.
The door 5 is provided with a plurality of hanger brackets, each of which comprises a straight back 18 having an integral laterally extending supporting bridge 19 at its upper end, this supporting bridge being provided with a diagonal integral brace 20 which extends downwardly and is secured by the sef v curing members 21 passing through the apertures 22 for supporting the track upon the door. Each hanger block 13 is provided with a bifurcated lower end 23 within which fits a roller 2 1, this roller being rotatably mounted upon a bolt or pivot member 25. The bridge portion 19 of the hanger brackets are adapted to ride upon the upper portions of the rollers 52 i as clearly disclosed in Fig. 5, whereby the door will be supported.

will also be noted by referring to Fig. "2 that the hanger brackets pass over these rollers and through the bifurcated ends of the hanger blocks and are of suflicient width to prevent lateral movement thereof as the door is moved transversely and as the brackets pass over the rollers. It is, of course, obvious that any suitable mechanism may be employed in this device for the movement of the door transversely and then longitudinally, since the object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient means for accomplishing these functions.
From the foregoing descriptlon it Wlll be seen that a simple and efficient door hanger has been produced by means of which a door may be set flush with the outer face of the structure upon which the same is supported, and which is so formed as to allow the door e tobe moved laterally and subsequently longitudinally when it is desired to open the same.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a door hanger of the class described, the combination of a supporting body having an opening, adoor for closing said opening, a track carried by said supporting body and provided with a longitudinal slot, a carriage carried by said track, said carriage comprising a pair of hanger blocks, a strip passing across the tops of said blocks and being fixedly secured thereto, whereby said blocks will be held in spaced relation, said blocks depending through said slot, axles passing through said blocks, wheels carried bysaid'axles, said carriage being adapted to ride upon said track, rollers carried by said blocks, hanger brackets fixedly secured to said door, said brackets adapted to ride upon said rollers, wl'lerebyfsaid door may first be moved laterally and subsequently longitudinally.
