Description

(No Model.)
MASK FASTENER. I No. 282.285. Patented July 31. 1883.
N, PEYEns. Fnumume m her, Washinrdnm D G UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE. i
CHARLES H. DEss'ART, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
MASK-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 282,285, dated July 31, 1883.
Application filed February 14, 1883. (No model.)
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. DESSART, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Mask-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
In Letters Patent No. 226, 225, granted April. 6, 1880, a mask-fastening made of a peculiar piece of sheet metal is described. The same has a penetrating-point entering a slot and being clinched. My present invention is a modification of the aforesaid patented device, and is made for cheapening the fastening and securing both ends of the mask-fastening.
Fastenings for gloves have been made of a cord connected at one end only to the glove by a metallic spangle. In the fastenings for masks I find it necessaryto connect both ends by a metallic clip, and to'elnploy an elastic cord, so as to allow the same to accommodate the person to whom the mask is applied, and to stretch in putting the mask on and taking it off.
In the drawings, Figure I is a perspective view of the rear of the mask, with the elastic and clips in place, and Fig. 2 represents the clips at the two ends of the elastic in larger the elastic or cord 12 is attached at the usual places. Each end of this elastic is provided with a clasp, c, of sheet metal. Said clasp has wings 1 1, that are folded over to confine the end of the cord 72,- whichpreferably is tied into i a knot at the end, so that it cannot pull out from beneath the wings 1 1, and there is also a tongue, 2, that is passed through a hole or slit in the mask, and bent up or clinched, so as to hold firmly in the mask. By these clips 0 the two ends of the elastic are so firmly at- -holding the mask in place, of two metallic clasps, one at each end, having wings for con fining the cord, and penetrating points or tongues to pass through the mask, substantially as specified.
Signed by me this 10th day of February, A.
CHAS. H. DESSART.
