Description

(No Model.)
J. P. HARDEN.
WATCH POB.
Patented June 5, 1883.
WITNESSES TTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JASIER F. HARDEN, OF NEV PLYIWIOUTH, OHIO.
WATCH-Foa.
SPECIFICATION formingl part of Letters Patent No. 278,947, dated June 5, '1883, Application led April 15, i883. l(No model.)
Y To` all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, J SEER F. HARDEN, of New Plymouth, in. the county of Vinton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Va-tch-Fobs; Vand I do hereby decla-re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which-it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figurel is a sectional view ofa watch-pocket provided with my improved fob; and Fig. 2 is a similar view at right angles to the view shown in Fig. l through the center line, :v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures. y
My invention has relation to an improved construction of watch fobs or pockets, as hereinafter more fully described, and particularly Kpointed out in the claims, which has for its object to keep the watch clean and bright at all times.
v In the accompanying drawings, A B represent the pocket, which may either be in one i piece with the garment to which the fob-is to be attached, or it may be made separately therefrom and attached to the garment by stitching or in any other desired manner.
A D is the fob, which is made of buckskin (chamois) of the shape shown in the drawings,- so as to readily iit an ordinary watch. The upper part of the fob is provided with a flap, C, which overlaps the upper edge o'r opening ofthe pocket, so as to protect the same against wear by the watch-chain. This ap may be suitably ornamented by embroidery or stitching, if desired, so as to present aneat and ornamental appearance. The lower part of the fob is perforated, as shown at d, and said perforated bottom part does not extend all the way down to the bottom of the outerl pocket, AB, but leaves a space between the two, as shown at E. Dust or dirt which may collect intQ the pocket will drop through these aperturesA into the bottom of the outer pocket, from which it may readily be removed by turning the same inside out. Thus it will be seen that the fob D will always be kept clean and free from dirt, and thus in turn operates to keep the watch placed in the fob always clean and bright.
The fob may be attached to the pocket either permanently by stitching or removably by a suitablyconstructed catch or safety-pin, as shown at F on the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to` secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesl. The watch-fob constructed with the flap 3. The combination of the outer pocket, Av
B, removable fob or inside pocket, D, provided with the overlapping flap'C and bottom perforations, (l, and removable fastening device F, substantially as and for the purpose shown and set forth. f
' In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto aiXed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JASPER FRANKLIN HARDEN.
