1 Claim. (Cl. 206-16) My invention relates to improvements in carrying cases for a chain saw of commerce.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a carrying case which will fit the drive housing, chain saw guide, and front and rear handles on at least one type of chain saw and which is constructed for easy carrying and with means for fastening the saw therein.
Another object is to provide a carrying case for the above purposes which is not bulky and awkward to carry and in which repair and servicing tools for the saw may also be carried.
Still another object is to accomplish the above and provide a case of simple inexpensive construction.
Other and subordinate objects will become apparent when the following description and claim are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved carrying case viewed from one side thereof;
Figure 2 is a perspective view viewed from the other side thereof;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in plan of the case opened;
Figure 4 is a view in longitudinal section taken on the line 44 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a perspective view drawn to a reduced scale of a type of chain saw which the case is designed to carry.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, my improved carrying case is designed especially to fit a type of chain saw 1, such as shown in Figure 5, and which embodies a chain drive housing 3 which has a top 5 substantially dome-shaped longitudinally of the saw, and an upwardly and forwardly inclined guide plate 7 for the saw chain 9 offset toward the rear side of the housing 3. A rear pistol grip 11 and a handle bail 13 extend longitudinally and laterally from the front side of said housing.
The carrying case 15 of my invention comprises a hollow elongated body 17 having a flat bottom 19, fiat front and rear sides 21, 23, and a longitudinally domeshaped top 25 providing a correspondingly shaped chamber 27 in the case 15 for the chain drive housing 3.
At the rear side 23 of the body 17, an elongated sheath 29 communicating with said chamber 27 inclines upwardly and forwardly from what constitutes the front 2,788,889 Patented Apr. 16, 1957 end 31 of the body 17 and in which the guide blade 7 and the saw chain 9 fit.
A triangular chamber 33 in the angle formed between the front end 31 of the body 17 and the sheath 29 is provided with bottom sockets 35 for repair and Servicing tools 35 for the chain saw.
A transverse groove 35 and a longitudinal groove 37 in the bottom of the housing 17 are provided for seating the handle bail 13 and the pistol grip 11 and pairs of hold- down straps 39, 41 are provided on said bottom for securing the chain saw 1 in the case by fastening of said straps over said bail 13 and pistol grip 11. A longitudinal bottom groove 18 is provided in the rear part of the body 17 for fitting a bottom bulge 20 in the housing 3.
The described case 15 is divided longitudinally into upper and lower complemental top and bottom sections 43, 45 hinged together as at 47 at the rear side 23 of the body 17 for opening and closing of the case. Trunk type latches 49 are provided on the front side 21 of the body 17 and on the sheath 29 for latching the case closed.
A carrying handle 51 is provided on the top 25 of the body 17 and a pocket 53 in the front of the bottom section 45 for accessories for the chain saw 1.
The foregoing will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept and right is herein reserved to such as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A carrying case comprising a hollow elongated body having a flat bottom, sides, and ends and a longitudinally dome-shaped top forming a chamber adapted to contain a drive housing of a chain saw, and an elongated sheath inclining upwardly from one end of said body at a right angle to said end and adapted to contain an upwardly inclined guide blade and a saw chain of a chain saw, transverse and horizontal grooves in said bottom adapted to seat a handle bail and a pistol grip, respectively of a chain saw, and a triangular chamber in the angle formed by said sheath and end of the body connecting said sheath to said end to reinforce the sheath and adapted to contain servicing tools for a chain saw.
